Got the foamies last night - ouch!!!

Yesterday was my third day of eating soft foods.  I had canned tuna (about 3 oz) with a little mayo and two Ritz crackers.  A few minutes later I was in some serious pain!  From what I have been able to research, I had a case of the foamies. I think it was the tuna that caused my foamies - anyone else experience the foamies with tuna?

It may have been cause you ate too fast.  I'm still learning too, but I think that may be the problem.  The same thing happens to me when I eat too fast or take big bites.  I hope this helps!    Andrea

Hi There.... Did you eat the Tuna packed in water or oil? Make sure it's the tuna packed in water. And make sure that you eat very slow. The same thing happens to me when I eat to fast.

I used tuna packed in water.  I agree with the replies that I probably ate too much too fast.  I think that coupled with the fact that tuna is dense is what did me in.  I really hope to avoid the foamies in the future!

I have only experienced the foamies once and it was with chicken.  I was about 6 weeks out and I think it was a combination of eating it too fast and not chewing it up well enough.  Whatever the reason, it was not a pleasant experience at all!!!!  The only trouble I ever had with tuna was when I tried to force myself to eat an entire 3 oz at about 3-4 weeks out and my little pouch just couldn't hold it all.  So don't make that mistake either!!  LOL!!!   You probably did just eat too fast and sometimes I still do that even at almost 7 months out!!  It's definitely a learning process!!!!  Good luck to you! Hugs, Donna

Tuna --- YUCK, I understand the foamies , I tried tuna 3 times and was sick everytime, now I just stay away from it.  Before my RNY I loved  tuna and most seafoods but since surgery I can not take it. I am good with most everything , no large amount of sweets of course they also make me foam up. Also I ate too many cheese puffs once and was so sick.  It could have been you did eat too fast or too much , but if I may  suggest wait a few weeks before trying tuna again.  Milk anything also tears my tummy up... rice is ok if I am very careful and only eat a small amount.  I have found it is a chance when trying  new foods, some  are fine,  some will cause us to become sick.  The foameys are horrible for anyone that has not had the pleasure of them....  Happy Friday Losers The Pugs Momma

Funny you should ask... just last week (at 3 months post op), I had a nice bout of Foamies... and I had eat tuna salad.  Don't think I was eating too fast though.  It was ROUGH... lasted 30+ minutes... I won't be eating that again anytime soon.

I mainly get them if I eat too fast or if something gets hung. It is NOT a pleasant experience.... Be sure to eat very slowly (especially at this stage out) and take small bites.  I was able to eat seafood salad with crab meat and tuna and duke mayo at about your stage.  I would probably wait a while before trying it again, but if you do, try everyone's advice and hopefully you'll be okay. :) Congrats on your WLS!

Marie, Sounds like to me you got the foamies because the tuna was having a hard time going through the pouch. I had my first experince with canned chicken OMG I will never forget that in all my life. Eatting to fast or big bites will do it too. All A learning process everyday.                                             Annie

I CANNOT do tuna either.  I tried some tuna salad and the foamies were horrible.  I also cannot eat shrimp.  It is funny how eating varies from one person to the other.   I am almost 7 months out and still do not want to even try tuna!
