something new

Mother just call to tell me that her dermatologist who we saw yesterday wants me to come with her to her next appointment on the 12th and he would like to start doing lazer on my face to remove the reddness. I have a skin condition called rosasia (SP) basically my face gets really red around my cheeks and chin area sometimes it looks blue. I hate it and it seems to have gotten better since surgery but I still have it and the doctor almost freaked when he saw me yesterday he had not seen me since my surgery. Then I was told my brother maybe intrested in the lapband. I told mother this would be wonderful but my advice is he would have to come to some terms about he would never be able to eat or drink like he does now. I strongly urged him to do some soul searchng before deciding to do this.                                                           Annie

I presume he freaked because you had lost so much weight, not because you have rosacea?  That's great news, if he can help you.  How do you feel about his having approached your mom? I hear you on your brother's interest in having the surgery.  There is a lot of work (inside stuff) that has to be done with this surgery.  It isn't just about what and how much you eat, but about WHY you eat as well.  All you can do is be available to help him with information and pointing out where to get it. Keep us posted. 

Hi Suzanne, No he did not freak because of the rosacea. He appeared very impressed with the weight loss. Also mother wants to have this doctor do this for me and the doctor has been a personal friend of hers for many years. Wls is not for the weak minded it is a life style change and one must be prepared mind body and soul.                                        Annie PS mother also point blank wanted to know if I was using BC  because as she said "you are normal now so becareful" LOL I told her I had complete control over that situation

I have another friend that had the laser treatments for the rosacea and it did a fabulous job clearing it up. I look forward to your having a just as wonderful a result.

I'll bet you really enjoyed the reaction of your mother's Dr. Isn't it great when someone who hasn't seen you in a while is just floored by the wonderful work you've done?!

I'm sure your brother is looking at your success and wanting that for himself, but you are so right to recommend that he do some serious soul-searching. As you say, this is not a miracle cure ... It takes a lot of work to use the tool. I wish him all the best, whatever his decision.

Congrats on the kudos my friend. You certainly deserve them.

Annie, Good luck with the laser work, I've been having treatments for facial hair for the past year and have been very happy!  The treatments hurt (sting) a bit but it's worth every second!  I know the doctor was excited to see your weight loss, it's fun getting those "wow, look at you" freak outs!  I remember them well!!!   Hopefully your Brother will see how well you've done and realize he needs to change his ways.  It's amazing how much out success makes others look at themselves.  I have a couple friends who have had WLS now and a couple who have changed their eating habits in the past 5 years, it's cool when they ask questions about nutrition or WLS and I can help them out.   Anyway, good luck with your laser (and your Brother)!  

  Thanks Sheryl, My mom told me the other day it does sting a little.I too have unwanted hair have had it for years and finally just started shaving to keep it at bay. I always see the fat lady at the circus in my mind with a full beard. DH birthday ic coming up and I am having a party for him I am hoping to have some of this done and possibly cleared up but if not there is always my good old stand by of foundation and powder.                                                 Annie
