Back to Yoga

Prior to surgery, I had gone to a few yoga classes and really enjoyed it.  So, today a friend and I "returned to yoga".  It was a good experience.  My shrinking belly gave me more flexibility in some poses, so that was exciting!  Unfortunately, I'm not really any stronger than I was prior to surgery, but that doesn't surprise me either.  I'm going to keep going and we'll see if i get stronger over time.

I love yoga... one of my favorite things to do! You will definately build up strength... pre-op and for about 6 months post-op I could barely do a push up... holding the plank position in yoga was a super challenge for me... now I can do it soooooo much easier!

First visit to surgeon - 288 ~ bmi 45.1
2 week pre-op 252 ~ bmi 39.5
Total lost - 153 Since surgery - 117!
Goal weight - 155 (mine) 180 (surgeons)
Current weight - 135 (2020 I lost 10lbs due to dedicating myself to working out more and being in better shape)

1/14/2025 still maintaining 135 :-)

Extended TT, lipo, fat injections - 11/2011

BA/BL/Arm Lift - 7/2014

So there's hope for my plank position?  Good to know.  Maybe once I ace that one then I can work on the crocodile!  :)

Yeah there is hope!! I can actucally do the leg swing thru move... you know when moving from downward dog/plank into something like warrior 1... before my big ole belly was always in the way so I would have to stand up and reposition myself... or put my foot only 1/2 way up the mat and then move it again... hehe :-)

Yes!  The leg swing through move!  I know what you're talking about!  I'm at your "before" right now, but I'll keep working at it.  As my stomach shrinks, my flexibility and strength increase.

Deb -

My Mom has been trying to get to do yoga for years. I'm afraid I've always been fat and so I found it reallyl uncomfortable to do. After reading your post, maybe I'll look into it. I understand it's great for strength, flexibility, balance and stress relief ... all things I could use.

I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed your class.

The thing I like about yoga is that it's an individual thing and they stress that you only do what your body is capable of for that day.  And yes, it is good for strength, flexibility, balance and stress relief.  Give it a try!
