I have been doing very well on my pureed food. But my question is, During the day I'm very aware  now  what people eat and how much. It's  just a mazing.  From breakfast, lunch and dinner. Let's not forget evening food. Is it just me, it kinda turns my stomach thinking how unhealthy it is now. Please let me know that I'm not crazy and other OH's feel the same way!!!

I use to feel the same way... now I dont pay as much attention but sometimes I just cant believe how much food one eats. I especially take note of what overweight people are eating and know that I use to be the same way!!  The thing that still gets me is how much food resturants give you - its really sick... they really disort what a normal portion is and make us eat eat eat. I went to a local italian resturant this week and got their chicken romano - well I got my plate and it was TWO huge chicken breast halfs and about 1/2 a box of pasta.... I was like holy *$(#)@$... it was an ABSURB amount of food. Even if I were a 'normal' person the plate should have only had 1/2 what it did. Needless to say I barely finished a 1/4th of it.... I ate another 1/4th the next day (mostly of the chicken, barely any of the pasta) and the box still has a ton of pasta and a huge chicken breast in it!

When I was at your stage of the process I was very aware of what and how much people around me were consuming.  The other thing that amazed me was the smell of food became very intense.  Usually I have problems smelling anything unless it is very strong.  My son-in-law nearly killed me when he cooked some hamburger helper when I first came home from the hospital.  It seemed that the smell lingered for hours.     The amount of food that some people are able to consume just continues to amaze me and I wonder at all the junk that I consumed over the years and how I am still here to be able to tell about it.    I have done some cooking and baking this holiday season but it has been totally healthier than in past years.

So funny that you said this-- I was eating breakfast with my mom yesterday and noticed the same thing. I mean, she didn't eat a HUGE amount (probably normal for what I would usually eat or even more than she ate), but I thought it was interesting.... Yeah, you aren't the only one. :)

Reenie -

I think it's very common and part of the beauty of this experience. It seems to re-wire how view food consumption. Of course, it changes over time, but it gave the "opportunity" to rework my perceptions of how much is enough in my own minds eye.

I agree what you're experiencing is normal, if you're crazy than I am too..  I would sit at the table and be very aware of what everyone was eating around me, their choices, their amounts, and the time they take to inhale it.  It was unreal.  I would comment to DH, "that woman over there is ordering 3 starches and no protein,", "or did you see how fast they ate and left?" while I was still into the first half of my protein. The feeling has pretty much faded, so I am not so much aware of what others are doing now as I am allowed more choices. Sad it took surgery for me to finally "see the light" but am so thankful for it, and the obesity sickness did not win.  Good luck on your journey! I'm the same way, Reenie!  During the first six months I also was much more sensitive to smells and tastes, drinking watered down stuff, etc.

No Reenie...you aren't crazy.  I am on pureed foods as well and I am always amazed at the things people are eating.  While shopping yesterday in the mall I could smell the food court and it was completely at the other end of the mall from where I was.  Simply weird how things have changed so much.  Including what I use to eat.  I can remember the drive through line at McDs and I would order a meal upsized with sometimes even a sundae!  OMYGOSH...   YUCK!

Nope your not crazy!! I do the same thing when we go out to eat. The restaurants are CRAZY serving up portions that would feed 4 people!!!! Hubby also notices it and has started eating slower like I do instead of woofing down the food and while hes slowly chewing hes amazed at how much food people chow down on.. which we both used to overeat as well!! not no more LOL your totally normal Reenie!!

Hi Reenie! So glad you're doing well with the pureed diet.  You're not crazy at all.  LOL  Remember when we all met for breakfast and you guys had pecan waffles and eggs and sausage etc etc???   And I nibbled on 1/4 of a bacon, egg and cheese on an English muffin?  I just couldn't get over how little it took me to fill up!  And it was fun watching you all eat those waffles, wishing it were me, and yet knowing one bite would fill me up!  LOL This surgery is a real wake-up call! Regards to George!
