Can you tell me if I'm doing okay? Weight loss??

I had my surgery (a revision) on 8/23/07 and was 228 pounds. It's almost four months and I'm at 164. Does that seem okay to anyone?

I know I was technically a "lightweight" per my doctor and it was a revision from a lapband and they say revisions don't always go as fast - but what do you all think? Am I doing okay?

I'm trying to look at it that I've lost over 50% of my excess weight and have about 40 pounds to go. It's hard when you see some people going SO fast - like 100 pounds lost at 4 months type things.

I think you are doing excellent... seems are you ahead of the game when it comes to most - you arnt even 6 months out yet and lost over 1/2 of your excess weight - only 40 more lbs to go - you will be there in no time!

I had lost 100 pounds at 5 months, but I wouldn't compare yourself to me.  I started at 350, so I was a "heavyweight".  You're what is commonly termed on this board a "lightweight".  You are naturally going to lose more slowly than I did in the first few months because you just plain don't have as much to lose.  It doesn't take you as many calories to do daily activities as it did me when I was first out.  Now that I"m flirting with "Onderland" I have significantly slowed down.  We all level off around the same percentage lost.  It will come, and you're doing great! Take care. Ellen

Own it all, it's yours!

Thanks - you make me feel SO much better. I was feeling a little down. My girls are going to be gone for Christmas visiting their dad and I think I'm just feeling a little sad - you know, all alone, grappling with all of this post-surgery stuff. I'm so grateful to have had this surgery though!

You are doing a fabulous job. When I just had my 6 month post op appt at Duke they said that statistically an RNY patient can expect to lose about 60 to 80 percent of their excess weight by 1 yr following surgery. They also said that the average RNY patient will lose 2/3 of the weight that they are likely to loose in the first six months and the last 1/3 over the next 6 months.

I'm also considered somewhat of a lite weight ... I was 233 at surgery. I know how concerning it can be to watch others zooming past us, but when you look at the percentage of excess weight that's being lost, you'll see that your doing well. The fact that you have already lost 50% of your excess weight means that you are on the higher end of the statistical curve! Isn't that great!!! They also said that it doesn't mean that the "door" slams shut at 1 yr, but it's the statistical average.

Keep up the great work.

All the best,

Barb

P.S. I use a site called www.thinnerself.com to track how I'm doing in relation to the percentage of wt I'm losing. I plug in my info and it does some calculations. It was created by a guy who had rny several years ago. I'll bet if you look at it and read the report it spits out, you'll feel really relieved ... I know I do. It helps me keep some relative perspective.

That's the neatest thing I've ever seen - I'm thrilled with it! Thanks!

It says I should be 115, so I've got 50 pounds to go - that's not so bad - I think I can do that. I'm going to do my darndest - I know that!

Barbara - you look absolutely amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
