Since I'm not the doc, I can't say for sure, but often they will repair it while they are in there .... sometimes, they opt to leave it be and see what happens when you lose the weight. Ask your doc, but don't borrow trouble dear ... Tonight, dance the light fantastic!

Love you!

What kind of hernia? I have a hiatal hernia that was DX in the early 80's.  It kept me from getting lap band so I had to opt for RNY.  (The pics of it from my endoscopy ain't pretty.)  Two docs told me that I wasn't a good candidate for band and if they did that, I'd probably be back in a month telling them to "get this damn thing out of me."  My hernia isn't repairable, but if yours is so new you are just now finding out about it, I wouldn't worry.  I've seen tons of folks posting in the main forum about having a hernia and many of those have had their hernias "repaired" at the same time as WLS.  You might do a search in the forums and particulary in the main forum for more info on hernia and WLS to ease your mind. Savor the moment and cross this bridge when you get there.

Now Mare, I am the hernia girl and my hernia was low on left side. It was not fixed. He wanted to get weight under control first. 90% of my surgery was lap but for the low work hed did have to make a 5" incision.  But it was more because of scare tissue and mesh.  If yours is at an easy spot they may just fix it.  It is gonna be ok I am dusting off a place beside me on that bench. Come on I'm waiting Myrtis
