Hi, I have been watching this board for some time now and I have gained a lot of information from many of you. Thank You all for sharing your experiences. You never know how many people you influence that do not actively participate on this message boards.  Anyway my question is ....I am waiting on insurance approval for a RNY w/ Fobi Pouch. I have BCBS insurance. I have a 90/10 with a $250 co pay for inpatient surgury. Can anyone share with me how much their OOP expence was. I am trying to find out so i will know how much to spend on Christmas Gifts. (LOL). I have been saving some money and I want to make sure my surgery is covered before I spend to much.

I have State BCBS with a $300 ded and 80/20.  I ended up owing about $2200 to the hospital.  They paid everything else.  (Hopefully I will not owe that..  I am still waiting on my secondary insurance to process the claim) Good luck and WELCOME!!

I had BCBS PPO... my plan was 80/20 after my deductible which I had met before surgery. My 20% for the surgeon was around $250... my 20% for the hospital ended up at 1200$. The surgeon wanted his up front, the hospital made a payment plan with me - eventually I paid the balance in full and they gave me a 10% discount! woo hoo :-)

First visit to surgeon - 288 ~ bmi 45.1
2 week pre-op 252 ~ bmi 39.5
Total lost - 153 Since surgery - 117!
Goal weight - 155 (mine) 180 (surgeons)
Current weight - 135 (2020 I lost 10lbs due to dedicating myself to working out more and being in better shape)

Dr. P. did my surgery. Love him!! Very compasionate and great bedside manors. Really cares about his patients.  Ok, I have BCBS 80/20, I had to pay the surgeon 757.00 and the hospital 1275.00.  I had not met all of my ded. All had to be paid before surgery. The hospital will not make payment arrangements with anyone.  Hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Made it to ONDERLAND!!!!!!!

State BCBS PPO...........80/20.......I had to meet my out of pocket, which was $1650........the Dr. wanted their money upfront (Kim will tell you if you call), and then the balance of the $1650 went to the hospital........after all was said and done......I still  received a bill for $380 more that went beyond, but at least I get to make payments on that.  I think I'd really call and talk to one of the girls, they should be able to tell you and they're really great at communications. I have BCBS Options 90/10 with a $250 co pay for hospital admission.  You should find out how much your co-insurance is because that will determine your OOP.  Mine is $1250.    I paid my surgeon $540 up front and then the hospital $749.00.  Once all my co-pays were met  I still ended up with an additional 297.00 bill with the hospital once the co-pays were met. But then I had met co-pays and my co-insurance and I haven't had to pay anything else out of pocket

Thanks for the information.  I called the doctor's office and got the doctor's cost. But, the person I was told to contact at the hospital is out of office. I am still going to contact her when she returns. However, for a quick fix these estimates really helped.  I have been watching this board since August and all of you have already answered most of my questions with out me needing to ask anything. I still look forward to getting to know all of you. If all goes well with the insurance approval I should be having surgery shortly after the New Year.

My total hospital bill for RNY and cholecystectomy was $36,000.  I ended up paying about #1500 to the hospital and about $1014 to the doctor.  I have State Employees Health Plan-BCBS
