To Treadmill or To not Treadmill

We just bought a nice treadmill a few months ago at Walmart due to my impending surgery and the fact that my husband and I have tried gyms in the past and end up just wasting the money... We got a really nice one-- it's a Golds Gym brand for like $600.00. It holds a heavier weight than most treadmills which is nice b/c my husband is larger.  I know I don't use it as much as I should, but it's good that it's there and I don't have to "go anywhere" to exercise.

I had a treadmill.  I begged for one and my sister in law had one they weren't using.  I had it a few months and only used it maybe 10 times.  I hated it.  I am not trying to discourage you, but it could be a waste of money.  I just could never motivate myself to do it.  Mine was a clothes hanger too.  I am thinking of joining Curves.  But that also would be a waste of $ if I don't go.  But, I think that with the help of our surgery, we will see the weight come off, we will be more motivated to excercise.  We have walking tracks at most of the parks around here.  That is a little more fun than being closed up in the house walking.  I wish you well. 

I appreciate your honesty....  please....that is great!!  It does make me think.  I did curves before surgery and I did something to aggrivate an old neck injury and I am still not completely over it.  I just don't know.  Curves is Great though.   Call me chicken....but I'm weird about walking on tracks alone.  I just need to find a buddy I guess. I had a variety of machines before surgery.  Never used any of em.  Probably wouldn't use them now either.  When I am at home, I am really just interested in relaxing.  But, I do go to the gym regularly at the Y here in Charlotte.  It may not be the thing for you, but I find that it works best for me.  Particuarly as I am so well motivated when the eyes of others are upon me.  Once I get on that tread mill or whatever, I am not getting off or stoping early.  No wimping out in public, right.  I would never call myself competitive, but I also find I push myself more when there are others around me.  There are real concrete reasons that gyms work for some folks.  I would invest in a gym membership if I were you.  If money is an issue, I know the YMCA here in Charlotte has special programs -- I was surprised to find that I qualified for a reduced rate.  I am sure other Ys in other locals have similar programs. 

I will look into that too!  Now that I'm loosing weight it might not be too bad to go to the gym.  I just always felt like all eyes were on the fat girl.   If I get a job "again" at Wachovia...uptown their Y is in my building.  It would be almost ridiculous NOT to try it.   Thanks! Connie

I love my treadmill.  We bought a new one in Jan.  Got is from Play it again Sports.  it's a Horizon and is very easy to use.  I have it in the living room and watch TV while I walk.  I don't use it everyday but probably because I started wearing a pedometer and I get in alot of walking during the day on some days.  On the days I don't get to walk as much, i go home and get on the treadmill.  It's great on cold/hot days when getting outside is not good.  I've done gym memberships several times and I just don't go enough because of my schedule.  The treadmill is there when I need it and many times I get up and walk before I get my shower and go to work, in my pajamas.  I definately vote for the treadmill!  Good luck!   Alice

I have honestly never heard of Play it again Sports.  hmmmmm.  Where is one?  I will have to look it up and see if it might be worth "driving" to get a good deal.  I keep thinking that I can walk while I'm watching TV.  And that way I can know how much I walk.  Instead of a timer...I could just use the show as a timer.  Thanks!   Connie

Hey Connie!!!

Hubby and I went out and bought a $1200.00 elliptical machine because I hated to drive to the gym where its crowded ect.... it was a waste of money and I stopped using it... I am a big DVD workout/FIT TV freak. My favorite workout is called *Turbo Jam* and it is sooo much fun! I would just hate for you to waste your money like I did!!! sooo now I walk in my neighborhood or turn on fit TV which has a ton of classes all day long or do my Turbo Jam.. I have the complete set and LOVE IT!! If you lived closer Id have you over in a heartbeat and we could Jam together!!!
