OT: Anyone use SECU banking?

I'm so freaking frustrated with the SECU bank.... So Friday I deposited some money, thinking that it probably wouldn't show up until Monday, which is okay. I need to pay a credit card bill, but it could wait until today. But, I checked SECU Saturday on a whim, and it said the money was in there... So, I went ahead and called my CC people and put a payment in. Well, today I check it, and SECU says that I "have" the total amount of money in there, but I only "have available" the money I had in SECU before my deposit. Now I'm pretty worried that the payment I put in on Saturday with the CC company is gonna be denied/whatever. I'm so frustrated that SECU shows the money in your basic account front page, but when you go further in, it shows that you don't have that money actually availabel for use yet. And Monday, it STILL doesn't have the money I deposited available for use. Grr!!!

I think since you deposited most likely after 2 pm Friday, it isn't available till tonight actually but since you made the deposit first it will post first then they do debits. You should be fine. Deposit should post first. I also bank with SECU and they can be quite confusing in the way they post things. Your money is there but not until tonights posting since nothing clears until tonight...my opinion is you're good.  Lisa

you should be fine as long as what you deposited doesn't need to clear (a check from an out of state bank).  But if you deposited cash or a local check you should be fine.

I work in Banking and have worked a lot with SECU - without a little more specifics I can't say for 100% certain. but I believe what you are seeing is similar to this: All banks have a "Current Balance" and an Available Balance.  Your current is exactly what is in your account right now at this moment.  Your available is your current balance + any pending memo posted credit transactions and memo hold debit transactions (debit card mostly or teller cashed checks).  These transactions have not posted but it is money that is expected to be in posting due to the bank having already recieved it. SECU does have a posting format of  Electronic Credits, Paper Credits, Electronic Debits, Paper Debits unless they have changed it in the last 6 months, but I don't think so or they would have had to send you a notification of the change. So tonight at posting your deposit is going to post along with any other ACH or electronic credits first. Then, if your CC company sent the file in it will posted after.  Even if you deposited an out of state check, by law, they have to allow you $100 of those funds to be available.  If the out of state check is $75, then all $75 has to be made avaialble to you.  Of course as I say this I remember this is a credit union and not bound by all the same laws and regulations as a regular bank, but I still believe SECU holds to true to this Reg. You should be able to call your customer service to verify this information. We call ours Customer Contact Center.

Defect to Wachovia. We're WAY better. (And our banking day ends at 4:00 pm instead of 2:00 - bonus!) Nikki aka Wachovia Goddess

Aha, hate to be mean, but........ most everything I've heard about Wachovia is horrible. SECU is really freakin slow, but they're otherwise okay for me. I'm just impatient, and ALWAYS wait till the last minute to get bills paid. That's mainly because I don't have many bills, nor do I have transportation to get my money into my account. Heh.

I'm speaking for personal experience - so I think you've been misinformed. I've banked there for years and years and years - and I have been so pleased with them that I recently went to work for them. They've been voted #1 in Customer Satisfaction for 7 years in a row.

I learned a few years ago that it comes down to where you are from.  In my hometown, Wachovia had a bad rep as well. I was very leary of switching over when I moved to GA, but I needed a bank that I could access there as well as when I traveled home to visit. Wachovia was my only option. I was quite pleased with Wachovia in GA. I learned it's the people working that give the company the bad rep. Now that I'm back in NC I do bank with SECU.
