HI, I'm new to this. I saw the Dietition last week its my final thing to do .Now i'm waiting on my insurance. I just wonder how long that will take. Can you share with me how much pain there is after surgery.  I'm not really fearful more excited to start living a better life.

Hi Lynn!  I can't speak for pain on other surgeries, but I had a lap RNY with a Fobi band, and I had almost no pain from it.  Even in the hospital, I didn't feel pain.  I was on a pain med drip, but didn't use it a lot.  DH says that at one point or another, I was asking if it was time for pain meds, but I don't remember it.   What surgery are you having, and who is your surgeon?

In my opinion.. pain is VERY minimal.  It is more of a "sore" types feeling than a real "pain".  While in the hospital the nurses fussed at me several times for not using my pain pump.  I could not see the benefit in using it if I were not in real pain.   I have had two C-Sections and another minor surgery.  In comparison, this was a breeze!   Good luck on your journey!

Hi!     Like the other posters, I too had very little pain.  I had a lap RNY and the only pain I remember feeling was right after I woke up from surgery and felt like someone had punched me real hard in the stomach.  Which I guess you could say they kind of did!!!  But of course they give you pain meds and after some sleep and the meds, I felt fine.  It really wasn't bad at all.  And the sooner you can get up and start walking, the better you will feel too.  I didn't have a pain pump in the hospital like some did but my surgeon did send me home with a prescrip for pain meds but I didn't have to use it any at all.  Every person's tolerance for pain is different of course, but I'm sure you will do just fine.  Don't worry and good luck to you! Hugs, Donna

I had the lap RNY as well. The pain was a stiff soreness for me, nothing unbearable at all. What helped me the most was once I was able to start taking things by mouth and I switched over to oral pain meds, they were great. Oral pain meds taste like crap but manage your pain and soreness longer and without making you feel loopy, so you can get up and walk around so much easier.

Like someone else said, the more you walk after surgery the better you'll feel. So take the first oppertunity they give you to get out of the bed and get moving. You'll start small, but any movement you can make will help.

Good luck getting your ins approval quickly hon. Keep us updated and feel free to ask more questions.
