I am really enjoying having all your Christmas cards coming.... I love to send them and get them, and this year thanks to my OH family I am in Card Glory :) Next thing --- Foot Cramps, dang I have them very often, last night was the worst ever. I have a club foot so I am not sure if it is the foot or something else, before I call my PCP , I thought I would ask you bunch of losers, do you all get them ? Have you asked the doctor about them. My labs have been good other than calcium being low ( due to gallbladder infection ) ...  I had to leave my bed last night and walk around to work it out, it made me cry and I am not a cry baby, and normally do pain pretty well . HELP if you have any ideal. Merry Christmas to all  Pugs Momma

I had one in my calf and foot so bad that I limped around for about a day afterwords. Sometimes being low in potassium can cause the cramping. Try eating a banana. Dehydration is another thing that can contribute to having a charlie horse cramp.

I'm sorry to hear that you had a rough night.

My potassium runs borderline low even with supplements.  A heavy blanket across my feet will cause me to have terrible cramps.  I sometime sleep with my feet outside the covers.   A banana really helps.  I have drunk orange juice in the middle of the night before WLS to make the cramp go way.  Sometimes running warm water over your feet will improve circulation and stop the cramp.   That is the most miserable feeling and leaves you sore for days.  Good Luck.  If it keeps happening check with your doctor to see if your potassium level is too low.

I am the queen of foot and leg cramps... for me its usually potassium... you can buy potassium suppliments OTC but they are VERY low in potassium - kiwi is my favorite way to get potassium (its higher than bananas!) you can google high potassium foods and get a list. Another reason for leg/foot cramps can be calcium - you are a good girl so I am sure you are getting in your suppliments :-) low iron can be a cause as well.... Recently I have been drinking diet soda (Im having a horrible time with my GB so I just do what it likes and it likes diet soda) and my foot cramps returned with a vengance... I researched online and dehyration can also be a cause so make sure you are getting in your water and limiting caffeine. I stopped drinking soda and the cramps stopped (I was only drinking ONE can a day!) Another tip I read to stop the cramps is to point your toes towards your knee - it stretches out the calf and foot muscles and supposidly helps the cramps to stop. I havent had the cramps since reading this so I havent tested it myself.

OM goodness,,, I am a diet coke freak , I know it is a bad thing but I still drink it , maybe 24 oz a day Caf free though.  But I am a big coffee/hot tea drinker and latley ( must be the cold ) I have really started drinking way too much , some days I may have 8 cups of tea,,, and yes I do Starbucks several times a week ( they are in my office building ) ,,, so I will start with cutting back on the caffene.  Thanks Gals, I will let you know if it gets better.  I knew you all would help  :)

What they all said, potassium and dehydration both cause it.  I just wanted to add that it could be a circulation thing.  B-12 is good for that, I hope you're taking your sublingual B-12.  Also good for circulation is Vitamin E.  You can try adding that to your vitamin regimen too.  Just a thought. Take care and let us know how it goes. Ellen

Own it all, it's yours!

Isn't it fun getting all those cards, I'm loving it also!   As for the cramps in your legs/feet...  I have RLS, not too bad but still it's there.  I just read a thread about putting a bar of soap between your mattress and fitted sheet, sounds weird but I'm going to try it... lol!  I'll try anything so I don't have to take another medication.  Who knows, it may work... lol! I hoep your cramps go away!!!!!!!!!!!!!
