I also had surgery last week and I understand your anxiety.  I got some great advice from so many people here to sit down and make out a list of benefits of this surgery.  I did that about 4 days prior to my surgery and it just opened my eyes to my real true feelings.  I sat down completely alone and totally focused on me (for a change).  It was a soul search that I had been needing to do.

I wasn't required to be on a diet prior to surgery, however, my Dr. did say that if I gained he would cancel my surgery.  I wasn't going to chance it.  I cut out sodas and started exercising.  I lost 15 pounds in 2 months without even really trying.  I got my caffeine headaches over with also.  So when I had surgery, all I was going to focus on when I arrived home..was recovery.

I wish you the best.  You are making a life commitment.  It is hard, but so worth it.

My Best wishes for you...Keep us posted.  and WELCOME TO THE NC BOARD

MY husband, Levi was 466 pounds. BMI was 66.9. He had to lose 66 pounds before his surgeon would consider operating on him. He was determined. From April 1 to July 11, 2007 he lost the 66 pounds. And he had Lap. surgery. So maybe making a committment now to lose weight and succeed in reaching your goals. No it's not easy. You can do it.      God has not given us a spirit of fear. You can do All things through Christ Jesus who strengthens you. Take care and have a blessed day.                                              Tanya Benjamin

I was 396 at my first surgeon's appt.  He asked me to drop to 350 so that my BMI would be 60, as that reduces the time on the table.  He explained that the usual time for surgery (lap rny with fobi band) is about 2-3 hours.  But he had a woman on the table just a couple of weeks previous who had a bmi of 63 (I think) and that her surgery took 6 plus hours.  So it made sense for me to try and drop down.  I made it to 356 (40 lb drop) in two months.  I ate 800-1000 calories a day, and started tracking my protein and water as practice for post op.  My surgery took 3 1/2 hours, Dr. P was thrilled with the size of my liver and said it was a great surgery.  So I for sure encourage you to drop those pounds.  You'll be glad you did.
