We all lose weight at different rates.  I do not think you should worry.  My doctor has told me that my weight loss is "above average"...   It is hard not to compare yourselves to others here, but just remember that we are all different and there is no set standard for how much each person will lose in the beginning.   I think 15 pounds in a month is awesome!  :)

Hey I think you're doing great!  Sure, some people lose more starting out, but that's not everyone.  There is no way I could have lost 15 pounds in a month pre-surgery.  Keep it in perspective.  My Dr has said time and time again, the slower you lose, the better off you are in the long run.  15 pounds this month, and 15 next month, you'll be to goal in no-time!  The fact is, you are losing and you will keep losing...keep working the tool, it's working for you!  :)

I don't know what you weighed when you started, but the lighter weight you were to begin with, the slower you'll lose.  I was 350 when I had my surgery, that's why I lost more pounds the first month.  The bottom line is, everyone is different.  Don't compare yourself to anyone else on this board, particularly someone with a different surgeon than you.  Each surgeon does it a little differently, some remove more intestine than others, make smaller pouches, etc.  Those differences do change the speed in which you'll lose.  That doesn't mean that one is better than the other, they're just different.  In the final analysis, if you're heading in the right direction, you and your surgeon will be happy. Relax and do what your surgeon told you and you'll be fine.  Sip sip sip, walk, walk, walk, protein, protein, protein.... Take care. Ellen

Own it all, it's yours!

Thanks all of you I was juct a little curious, but you are right I never would have lost 15 pounds in one month before, my starting weight was 235 but if I keep losing then its okay Im happy if its 2 pounds just dont want to gain.

Mine was 236 so we are close remember everyone is different and this is not a race like some people make it out to be. 15 lbs in a month is fantastic!!!

I know it's so hard not to make comparisons ... we humans are hardwired to do that, but the rate at which we lose is very personal and therefore variable. How much you have to lose, if you lost any before the surgery, how sensitive your body is to the loss before it says "WHOA! I need to hold on to those precious fat stores!" If you look at my profile, Shazanne's or LisaW's you will see that we are all "slow" loser's. However, when people talk to me and/or see me that are flabergasted. I feel like it's slow, but I have never lost this much weight in my life. When I was just about a month out I was so distressed because I had only lost about 15 lbs, then, the next week I dropped several. It seems to go that way. I drop, then I stop. My weight loss has slowed a lot in the last month, but I'm still losing. I use a table to track my weight loss on a weekly basis. It really helps me with getting some perspective. I have to admit to weighing myself more than once a week, but I only chart in once a week. This allows me to see the patterns of my loss and the stalls. While it doesn't completely quiet my nerves when the loss is slow, it does help some.

Hang in there. You are doing fine. This will work for you. Just stay with the program your Dr. has outlined for you.

Welcome to the loser's bench!

I was a lightweight by the time I saw surgery and never saw high numbers on the scale... my average loss for the first 6 months was just under 10lbs a month... after that it was around 5lbs a month. I didnt lose any weight the first 2 weeks post-op... then I lost 3lbs (I think)

First visit to surgeon - 288 ~ bmi 45.1
2 week pre-op 252 ~ bmi 39.5
Total lost - 153 Since surgery - 117!
Goal weight - 155 (mine) 180 (surgeons)
Current weight - 135 (2020 I lost 10lbs due to dedicating myself to working out more and being in better shape)

1/14/2025 still maintaining 135 :-)

Extended TT, lipo, fat injections - 11/2011

BA/BL/Arm Lift - 7/2014

Scar revision on arms - 3/2015

HALO laser on arms/neck 9/2016

Thigh Lift 10/2020

Thigh Lift revision 10/2021
