Another not so good Thanksgiving....

Oh the pain!!! It started the Friday before Thanksgiving - I thought it was acid reflux because it was the same pain I had back in July/Aug that prilosec took care of. After a few days the pain changed and I would hurt every time I ate. It all came to a head Wednesday before Thanksgiving when I was on vacation in Florida and ate dinner at one of my favorite resturants... a little after eating I was in the parking lot feeling like I was going to die - cramping, sweating, dry heaving.... called the on-call Dr at my surgeons office and he thought I had an ulcer - said to up the prilosec (I had started taking it again Friday) and eat soft mushy foods - yeah buddy that would work GREAT while I was on vacation. I did the best I could while I was on vacation. I found that chewing my food really well and drinking while eating (yes I know its a no-no) helped me from hurting so much and it was bareable. Last night I ate a little ice cream and I felt like I did Wednesday - completely horrible! Called the surgeon first thing, they saw me, sent me to the hospital for testing.... and guess what? Its my freaking gall bladder *#($)#@*$)(#*$)(#*$  going to find out tomorrow when I will be scheduled for surgery *sigh*

Jennifer, I'm sorry to hear that your gall bladder is being mean and nasty.  Mine was full of stones before I had WLS (although I never had any issues with it) so my surgeon just went ahead and took it out while he was rerouting my insides!!  From what I hear, after the first day or two, life pretty much gets back to normal so try not to worry too much about the surgery.  Good luck and keep us posted!  Hope you feel better soon! Hugs, Donna

Jennifer -

I'm so sorry to hear that your trip was marred by gall bladder attacks. I'm glad that they were able to diagnose it and will be able to take care of it ... hopefully, soon.

When I had trouble with mine sometimes any type of food would set it off, but most of the time if I stayed with a relatively bland, lowfat diet it was okay for the 6 weeks it took them to schedule my surgery.

I'm hoping you'll be in, out and recovered long before that.

Take care,

Barb

Been there and bought the post card.

The gall bladder surgery should be a piece of cake - it's remarkable how I've had a complete lack of pain since having it removed.  Heartburn maybe twice in the last 10 years, and well earned!

You'll be a little sore and tired - but really, it should be a breeze compared to your WLS.

Jennifer,

So sorry to hear about the GB. I had the same experience a week after having my first child. It took them months to diagnose me because I was 'too young' to have that problem. Yeah...right. I remember that pain like it was yesterday. Nothing like it.

Mine was done pre-laproscopic so I've got a lovely 4 in frankenstein battle scar from mine. I had to be out of work 6 weeks. I know your recovery will be easier and short but surgery is surgery and it pretty much sucks!

Please let me know if I can do anything to help out.

Jennifer, I am so sorry you had to go through all that.  I remember my gall bladder -- I thought I was having a heart attack and was going to die.  I literally said my last goodbyes.  But, believe me, once they get it out of you, everything will return to normal.  Hope you get your surgery soon.

I'm sorry it ruined your Thanksgiving and vacation, but I'm glad they found out what it was! From what I hear the GB surgery is nothing compared to the WLS so you should be back to normal in no time! Praying for you sweetie!
