Gall Bladder Surgery...

Well a lot of you know I've been having problems with my gall bladder and I appreciate the PM's asking how I've been doing...  I'm feeling about the same, the pain comes and goes without much rhyme or reason so it's been difficult to know for sure if it was gall bladder.  Dr. MacDonald (Southern Surgical - my WLS surgeon) had me go through all kinds of tests to rule out everything tomake sure it was my gall bladder.  So, I am scheduled for surgery on December 20th at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville.  I'm a bit nervous about this surgery for some reason (even though I've already had WLS and a hysterectomy in the past 5 years, and this is nothing major comparatively).  I'm sure everything will be fine and I'll have someone send and update.   Thanks again for the friendship and concern!  You're the best!!!  I really hope ya'll had a wonderful Thanksgiving!!!!!  I know I have a lot to be thankful for, my family and friends, my health, a roof over my head, a decent job (even though I hate the hours and complain about co-workers sometimes), and food in my tummy.   Have a great FRIDAY!!!!!

Sheryl, You will do just fine with the surgery. They have come a long way since I had mine out in 1982. It is done by lap now. I had the open  procedure.  Yes, the pain does have no rhyme or reason.  The Dr. called it refered pain. I always had it on the opposite of were the galbladder was. They had a hard time finding out what I had going on also. Keep us up to date how your feeling. Reenie

Sheyl,

Don't worry... been there, done that.  My GB surgery was a breeeze in terms of pain and recovery compared to my WLS.  Mine was lap also.... and I never had any symptoms of pain.  My symptoms were 24/7 nausea.  I didn't even see a doc for 2 weeks because I thought I had a "bug" and that it would pass.  When I finally did go, it took 2-3 MORE weeks of tests to figure out where the nausea was coming from.  It was a month+ of pure hell being nauseated around the clock.  And I felt SO much better after the surgery, like a new woman, and that alone will ease your pain!

Hi Sheryl, Thanks for filling us in.  Sorry to hear that you do indeed need surgery, but glad to know that soon you will be in the solution.  GB is a simple solution and hey, who knows?  Maybe it weighs a pound or two!!!  LOL

Sheryl...........I hate it because it's so close to the Holiday, but at least you'll be better soon.  I, also, had mine out, but when I was 15.  I had it done open, and a big ole' scar to prove it.  Do you need someone to drive?  Let me know and I'll be there!  Hugs to you.............Nanc

Hi Sheryl -

I had my GB out lap. right after my daughter Sarah was born 13 years ago. I found the pain to be similar to, but not as intense as the RNY. The recovery was a lot easier, probably because I was able to eat normally and regain my strength quicker. Also, the surgery just isn't as involved.

I'll be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

Thanks for the well wishes and support ya'll, I really appreciate it!!!  My Mom, Dad and Rex are going to take me to the hospital so I'm good.  But thanks again!  I'm not really too worried about the recovery because I figure it can't be as bad as my WLS (done lap) or hysterectomy (done open)  were.  For some reason I just have this nervous feeling about the actual surgery (doing it lap also)  - I dunno, just being silly I guess.  I am looking forward to getting rid of the pain and because I'm having the surgery on the 20th I will be off for Christmas so that's a plus!  Otherwise I'd be right here at work!  Hopefully I'll have my computer up and running at home by then, if not then I'll have to go over to my Mom & Dad's and use theirs.  I will keep ya posted! Anyway, thanks again! Sheryl
