Went to my anesthesiologist meeting, they told me I could keep on my acrylic nails and polish on?? No hair gel or hairspray. Ughhhhhhh NOT a good LQQK........ LOL

The nurse who took my blood pressure should NOT, I repeat should NOT, be in that job... Her name was Pam. She put the automatic blood pressure cup on my arm and got it so tight it made my whole arrm, hand and neck ache. I asked her to take it off it was hurting so bad it was starting to give me a headache and my hand was turning blue. She had no sense of urgency about anything and a personality of a stone. The doctor could barely speak english and I had a very hard time understanding anything he said to me. I was very irritated when I left from there.

Count down time now.

I'm sorry that you had such a negative experience. I hope that your experience at the hospital will be much more positive.

Wishing you all the best,

Barb

Ugh, nothing makes your experience more miserable than a miserable health care worker. I'm sorry you had that experience, I've run into a couple here and there with that same sort of stone like personality and carelessness with my feelings.

I too hope you have a better expereince in your hospital. Good luck hon!

There was a Phillipino nurse at UNC Chapel Hill that answered my light.  I was having an asthma attack and she said no can help you now. End of my shift.  After over 30 minutes with my light on, I finally had to call my doctor on my cell.  It was bad.  The student nurses were far better. Diane

At CMC-NE, you will get a paper explaining "Code Care" ... basically, it's a number you dial if you feel you are not receiving the treatment you have a right to receive.  Trust me, quick response comes if you have to dial that number!

However, you will be on MY postop unit following your surgery with Dr. Pirrello, and I promise that we will take VERY good care of you!

you can wear nails and polish?  WOW...  I might just have to go get my nails done then.  I have not had manicure in forever.  Actually Monday I am thinking I will have a mani/pedi.  Just before surgery so that I look good at least toe and finger wise.

We really can't do hairspray or gel?  I just don't know if I can do that.  LOL.  I'm not vain...I'm being real here people.  I'm a Dr. B patient having surgery Wednesday.  I don't remember hearing this about the hair stuff.  hmmmm

Connie,  You used to have to have at least 1 clear nail for pulse ox monitoring, but the last time I cleaned off a patient's nail polish before sending them to surgery, the OR called up and told me that I didn't need to do it anymore.  As for hair products, I wouldn't use those the morning of your surgery -- your hair is going to be covered with a lovely surgical cap anyway (NOT) and it is going to matt down your hair no matter what is in it.  Those products are potential fire hazards and that's the only reason I could think of that they wouldn't want you to use them before going into the OR.  (I heard of a patient *****cently went to some type of surgery and there was a spark from a piece of equipment and she actually ended up with a facial burn from some fluid catching fire from the spark).   After your surgery, you won't be allowed to shower while in the hospital but you can wash your hair in the sink and fix your hair -- so go ahead and bring those products with you.  The day of your surgery, you probably won't care about your hair and makeup, but the next morning you may want to do those things.  My first night, I didn't care what I looked like and was so groggy I couldn't have fixed my hair and makeup if I had wanted to.
