When I saw my family this weekend my cousin told me that her, her husband, and my mom, my aunt and my uncle all volunteer at the local soup kitchen. I checked out the one in Onslow County online and went and volunteered this morning from 8-12. It was nice to get out and meet the wonderful staff that keeps the kitchen running. We made 500 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the trucks that take the food out to the rural area and then we chopped up meat for some dishes they plan on serving this week, then the kitchen opened up at 10:45 and served hot lunch till 11:45. I helped out on the food line serving up green beans with baby boiled potatoes. It was really a great feeling helping out and the people that came and ate all said thank you and the food was delicious. I was surprised how balanced and healthy the meals are that are served and I plan on returning at least twice a month to give back to the community just thought Id share my experience with you all and tell you how great it made me feel!!

Darcie -

You are an angel ... in so many ways. I know how good and warm you must feel while helping others. I think that volunteering feeds the soul and is much a gift to ourselves as it is to others. I know that the people at the soup kitchen truly appreciate your gift of your time and caring.

Thanks for giving in all the ways you do.

Warmly,

Barb

What a wonderful way to spend some time!  And I am sure it's hard to tell who feels better about it:  you or the people you helped!  Good for you, Sweetie!

Darc, that's totally cool!  Makes you appreciate all that we DO have. I know the soup kitchen's shelves are down this time of year, I've organized all of the busses in our district to have a canned food drive to donate to them.  We'll be bringing it in to them on the 29th, so maybe I'll see ya!  Gotta' work on these arms some more first........ Darcie your star in heaven just got brighter.  I have always wanted to do this and I think you just motivated me to look into doing something like after my surgery next week for maybe sometime around Christmas.  I think I should be strong enough to do that by then. You truly do keep inspiring ....   what an all around success you are.- Happy Thanksgiving- Connie

I used to love volunteering at the Soup Kitchen in San Diego, I always ended up feeling blessed and thankful for what I had when I left.  Thank you for posting this, I plan on volunteering also and will be getting a hold of them after my Gall Bladder surgery (probably the 1st of the year).   Take care girlie!
