Struggling, but winning the war

I'm really struggling with that mean monster "depression." It has an iron grip on me and isn't letting go. I'm hoping that it will get better soon.

I'm continuing to lose and I'm grateful for that. I'm also making more good choices than bad ones, even though I'm wrestling with this monsterous depression. That's HUGE! Last year, I would have been indulging in whatever food might make me feel better; even if only temporarily.

I saw my PCP today when I took my daughter in to see her. She hardly recognized me at first, then she was blown away by my progress. That was nice.

I have my photo on my credit card. I have had two people ask to see my ID because I don't look like my photo. I stopped in at the bank today to get a new photo, because my DL photo doesn't look like me either. I had planned to wait until I finished losing weight, but my banker said not to worry ... we'll just take another anytime I want. BTW ... He agreed, it was probably time for a new photo too.

((((((((((((((((Barb))))))))))))))))) I think the short days and longer nights just feed into the depression monster. I'm sorry to hear that you are struggling. Hopefully you can get outdoors this weekend, enjoy a lil Vitamin D synthesis and the monster loosens it's grip. I love the story about your DL and CC photos. Be proud- smile for a new photo and repeat the process as you continue to lose more wt. Congrats! Sheila

I am a work in progress and I am committed to progress with the work ahead of me.....

Sheila -

Thanks for your kindness. As you know, my depression issues have been around long, long before WLS and will most likely be with me for the rest of my life. I have to say that I make concerted efforts to do those things necessary to bring me out of the dark and into the light ... talking to people, going outside, exercising, etc... I'm more successful sometimes than others. I will try to get out some this weekend and I will be meeting some of our OH buddies tomorrow. That will definitely lift my spirits.

And as you say, I am proud of the positives and try to continue to look at those things I can be grateful for.

Thanks for your friendship and support,

Barb

Hi Nancy -

THanks so much for your understanding and caring response. There are some issues that don't really have to do with this time of year, but I guess are magnified by it that are really weighing heavily on my. I'm hoping that they get resolved and that the clouds of depression will move soon.

I must say that the understanding and support I receive from my friends here is a great help and most appreciated.

I hope that we'll get to meet sometime.

All the best,

Barb

Hi Barb, I am so sorry to hear you are having problems with the big green monster!  I am sending up prayers that comfort and blessings be sent your way.  I am so glad to hear Sarah is doing well.  I haven't been on much.  We are working 12 hrs/day, 7 days/week; due to end of year requirements.  We'll be gearing up for inventory soon and then... the New Year!  BTW do you and Ben have anything special planned for New Year's?  I hope to see you real soon! Love, Diane

Oh Barb, I am so sorry to hear you are dong battle again with depression.  I have been treated for depression since 1988, as you know, and probably suffered from it for many years before that!  As others have mentioned, and I am sure you know, this time of year  with less light on the pituitary gland, do add to our low-down feelings.  You know it will just be a matter of getting through it.  I wish you didn't have to, though.  Try to keep your focus on your blessings and don't beat yourself up for being "ungrateful" if you can't.  CALL ME anytime I can be of help!
