Need Help Finding in Raleigh

Ok, so I'm emarassed to admit this or ask, but, I'm dreading the alternative.  I'm looking for a Psychiatrist in Raleigh that specialized in counseling bariatric patients.  My surgeon is wonderful but the psychiatrist that works with his patients is in Pinehurst 1 hour and 1/2 away.  There are issues coming up that I didn't even know existed and need help dealing with them. Not to mention Brett (Dr. Mitchell's PA) wants me to see someone because I've become "Obsessive" with notating everything I eat  - every calorie, every carb, fiber.  It's called fear and needing to understand in my mind, but it's being seen as something else.  BCBS is fantastic at providing alist of psychiatrists in the area (about 10 pages worth) but there is nothing notating specializations.   I've called the psychiatrist that works with my surgeon's patients 3x (left messages) and she has never called me back. I was hoping she might have a referral suggestion.  The alternative is going through all 10 pages of listings and just start calling them one by one and asking if they specialize in bariatrics.

Sometimes the local physicians network has an appointment specialist - for example here in Charlotte we have carolinas health care - their group "carolina physicians network" has a hotline you call to set up appointments. they will ask where, why, etc and help you out.

Does Raleigh have something like that? It's usually associated with the hospital. Or hell just call the hospital?

Personally I think it is a good thing t be so aware of listing what you eat. I am an avid label reader and have been for years. Also if you were on weigh****chers knowing certain things about food helps you determine how many points are in what foods. I went to see a Psychiatrist at UNC nero science hospital to have my evaluation done before surgery they told me they do many of them through the year for people. I really liked the guy I saw but unfortunatly I cant remember his name. From my understanding the reason for the eval. is to show you can handle the surgery and following what you can and cant do after surgery. Looks like you should be able to deal with it great since you are so good about recording. I look forward to meeting you tomorrow at Perkins.                                                   Annie

It is never too late to be what you might have been.?

I see a counselor who does a wide range of counseling, including counseling patients re: obesity issues. She works with me and I have found her to be compasionate, but she also doesn't let you "wiggle" out of things either. She's actually been considering putting together a group if there were enough folks interested.

I hope this helps.

THANK YOU Barbara - its a place.  And I'm all about grouping it!

But sometimes you gotta have that alone time for those more humilating or embarassing commentaries.

I can be at Cary Crossroads in less than 10 min from my office, so she may be a very good place for me to start.
