What about me????????

This is somewhat close to the post someone had the other day, and now it has happened to me and thought I'd share too.  A man at work had on a unisex shirt with our school system logo on it and I complimented it.  He said he had gotten it from another girl (my friend), "who's too small now to fit it, she's lost 30 lbs!" is his quote.  Another acknowleged (sp) it also, and then the man said, "yes, her and Ana, she's lost a bunch of weight too!".  I nodded my head in agreement because they both have lost weight, one through stress and another from dieting and exercising, but neither has lost what I have, nor in the short time, so I thought mine was more evident, but guess not.  I just stood there agreeing and feeling like crap, wanting to ask, "what about me?????"  BTW, I head to Dr. again this weekend to discuss second fill. Nancy- even 10 months out, I am continously surprised at the folks who say NOTHING about my wt loss and then the next friend who comes along may simply rant and rave about how much I have lost.....It's very befuddling.....I think to myself, "I've gone from a size 20 to a size 10- isn't that really obvious?!?", but I temper it with the knowledge that I choose WLS for my own health and fitness and not to please the masses....

I think you look fabulous and its VERY APPARENT!!!! Just look at your facial shape changing and how your eyes just pop!

Love ya,

Sheila

I am a work in progress and I am committed to progress with the work ahead of me.....

Nancy, You're doing wonderful so don't doubt that at all!  You look marvelous!  Maybe he just felt uncomfortable saying it to you directly, people can be weird sometimes!  I had a similar experience...  After I had lost 150 lbs I came back to NC for a visit (nobody had seen me since 6 weeks after WLS), everyone was talking about how much weight I had lost and how wonderful I looked, except my Uncle.  So I thought he either didn't see it or he thought I looked terrible.  I found out a few months ago (2 1/2 years later and after loosing a total of 217 lbs) that he didn't say anything because he felt uncomfortable and didn't know how to treat me.  geeesh!  It took him 4 years to figure out that he needed to treat me the way he had always treated me!   Now that I'm 5 years out not many people mentionmy weight loss or even know my history, dang I miss those days of all that attention.. lol!  I'm working on getting the rest of this off and reaching goal so I'm sure some people will notice it one of these days... and if not that's ok, because I feel so much better than I did at 395 lbs and I did this for my health more than anything and just wanted be a "normal" size.   You're doing wonderful woman!!!  Keep up the great work!!! Nancy,

I've been experiencing the same thing over the past week.  Some friends just rant and rave, and then other people ask, "So, are you losing any weight yet?"  What?  I've lost 35 pounds!  Oh well, I know it takes a lot longer for the 35 pounds to show up on me than it does on someone smaller.  Plus, we're suddenly wearing winter clothes which cover up those small changes a lot more than the summer clothes do.  Oh well.  I'm sure they'll notice in time, and it doesn't really matter whether they say anything to us or not, it just feels good to hear it, right?  :-)  Thankfully my hubby is one that has been noticing the differences, I'm really getting a kick out of his facial expressions. You look great, and are doing fabulous...that's what matters!  Good luck at the Dr this weekend!

There are lots of people who tick me off these days..  Some because they just gush and gush about my weight loss (and never gave me the time of day before..) and others because they seem threatened by it.. and still others because I don't feel (good friends especially) that they have been very supportive..  I could go on and on..  We even talked about that at our support group meeting Tuesday night..  People just don't know when to be tactful.  LOL You do look great Nancy!  We all love you and think that you look better than those other girls.  :D

And there are those who just come up give you a hug and say I'm proud of you--how much have you lost now? Keep up the good work.  Now those are the comments I want to hear.  So far no one has said "Oh you did it the easy way".  I'm just waiting for that comment.   I have reached the point where students are starting to say something but it is usually a backhanded  complement like "Hey Mrs. H, no more junk in the trunk!"  Teenagers-can't live with them and can't live without them.

Nancy -

I have found that most folks are right up front and will tell me that they can't get over how good I look, but I also have some that don't mention it. In talking with another friend about it, she said that she knows that I've had the surgery and was comfortable commenting. She also said, that when she only knows someone "casually" she isn't as comfortable saying something; she doesn't want to focus on their weight ... good or bad. She's afraid that saying something might make them wonder what she thought of them before they lost the weight ... so sometimes, she doesn't say anything. So ... I guess, sometimes people are actually trying to be nice when the don't say anything. Other times, they just have their heads stuck somewhere unmentionable.

You are looking great. I can really see a difference in your photos and I know that you and your husband can too.

Keep up the good work. You are getting there! You are so much healthier than you were and you're looking great too!

Love you,

Barb
