Hi everybody I was just wondering if anyone had the NC State Health Plan and has had the Lap band surgery.  I have tried finding information on it every where but I cant seem to find anything that says that they do or dont cover it Thanks

Try posting on the Insurance forum and maybe on the Lap-Band forum. Hopefully, you'll be able to find someone between the three forums that can give you the information you are looking for.

Good luck.

Hello - The NC State Health Plan does cover the lap-band. The only thing is your BMI has to 50 or below. They request a 5 yr weight history. Then the normal test that the doctors will ask you to do.  So yes....they cover it and you shouldn't have any problems. :)

I have the NC State Health Plan and although I had the RNY surgery instead of the lap band, the process with insurance approval couldn't have been easier.  They just required my blood lab results, a letter from the doc saying it was medically necessary, my nut and psyche evaluations and a five year history of weights (although I only had the last four years and was still approved).  I received an approval within 48 hours of my info. being faxed over and was scheduled for surgery 3 weeks later.  Good luck on your journey!
