Hi Dana!
I say, do it up right! We're going to a friend's house for Thanksgiving, and I'm bringing things that I think I'll be able to eat, that everyone else will enjoy too. Overall, Thanksgiving can be a healthy meal, as long as you keep your portions in check: -First of all, it starts off with the Turkey. It doesn't get any healthier than a roasted bird! Just stay away from the skin! -Stuffing & mashed potatoes (high in carbs, so you might want to just have 1 bite, or stay away from them. -Sweet potatoes are good. Now I'm talking about baked sweet potatoes, not the candied kind covered in butter, brown sugar and marshmallows! Just bake them and sprinkly with some cinnamon & splenda. Yum! -Green Bean Casserole. Soft veggies that are fairly low in carbs -Diane's cranberry salad. Looks great, & I can't wait to try it! -Pumpkin Pie. I'm making one regular pumpkin pie, and one sugar free (pretty much the same as normal, but uses lowfat evaporated milk, and splenda instead of sugar. I'll put it in a normal crust, and just eat the filling myself! All in all, it can turn out to be a healthy food day! I'm looking forward to it, Thanksgiving marks my first day of full foods, I'll truly have something to be Thankful for!
My only suggestion would be to watch the carbs and fat....
Thanksgiving... turkey is great, just go easy on the dressing or make a LF version, veggies are all good - jus****ch the sweet potatos (esp if they have marshmellows), mashed potatos (in moderation) make some steamed veggies on the side (I go home for the holidays and always make a salad and steamed veggies to go with my food). Stay AWAY from the snacks and nibblies... if you want a little something go for the veggies tray and the cheese tray... pass by all those cookies and other junk. If you want a little pie, no big deal IMO... just forgo the crust - pumpkin pie is actucally pretty healthy... the crust is the worst part. You can always make your own SF or NSA desserts as well.
