Ow, ow, ow  For the last week I have been retaining so much water I look like the darn Michelin man!  I know it's not too many carbs, because I've been super careful about that (carbs make me hold water).  After several days I realized that I'm having the same "symptoms" as when I had PMS in the old days (five years ago), tender breasts, super puffy, etc.  I am upping my calcium, because that is what worked for PMS previously.  But I'm wondering if anyone else has had this happen?  And what did you do about it?

Hey Robin, I would definately recommend you calling the surgeon or your PCP.  This definately warrants investigation.  Do you eat a lot of salt?  If so, you may want to cut back on that.  Your doctor may want to put you on a diuretic.  There may be something else going on.  Please check it out with a doctor. Love, Diane

Hey Robin...I'm sorry you are ouching today....on a Gorgeous Saturday to boot.  Not good my friend.  I'm sorry.  I was thinking about the salt thing too.  I would maybe cut back today and tomorrow and just for kicks see if that does any difference....  if not...  immediately call your doctor Monday morning.  However....call your doctor anyway now, today if you feel like  you need to.  You are the best judge of your own body.  Maybe even get outside and this sunshine will take your mind off of it...  (i'm trying..I'm trying...  ) Good Luck - Keep us posted Connie

Hiya Connie!  It is beautiful out!  DH and I went on an adventure, jsut driving around - went west and south some  and really enjoyed the colors near King's Mountain, Clover and York.  As I mentioned to Diane, I don't do salt, but I'm hoping the calcium does it.  I know that's something we can be low on post op.  I'll see Dr. Larsen (my pcp) on Friday for six month blood levels, so at the worst I'll discuss with him.

I'll post as soon as I know more.

Thanks Diane.  I have an appointment with my PCP on Friday to have my six month blood levels drawn.  I will often have dehydration headaches so I'm careful about drinking enuf, but I don't do salt at all.  Don't add it to anything and don't eat salty stuff.  If the calcium doesn't help this week, I'll make sure we check it with the doc this Friday.

I assume it's not near your period?  How have you been doing with your water intake?  When I swell, it is usually because of hormones.  I swell worse when I'm ovulating than during my actual period.  If it's not then, then I know it's because I'm not getting enough water.  I agree, if it doesn't go away or continues to get worse, call your  PCP or surgeon's office. Take care. Ellen

Hety Ms Ellen!  I have been going thru the change for several years, so I can't really tell you if it's near my period or not!    I am on Prempro for hot flashes, etc.  so hormones are a total part of my life day to day.  That's why I'm trying the calcium thing.  (I know we are at risk for low calcium post op)  Because I get dehydration headaches without sufficien****er, I make sure I drink at least 100 oz per day, usually 120 oz plus.   Since I have an appointment with my PCP on Friday, I'll talk to him if nothing is resolved before then.
