I would like to know if there are any specific questions I should ask my surgeon when I go see him tommorrow.  I have a few written down but thought I would ask all of my NEW friends what they asked.  Also, What did you wear to come home in?  Like clothes and shoes.  What should I take with me?  If there is anything I should know before my surgeon visit or my surgery date (11-20)please let me know.  Thanks guys, I know I can count on you!!!! With all my love and prayers, Nancy

I took my own gowns and robes to the hospital.  I HATE hospital gowns, so I rested better in my own stuff.  I also took my laptop because Mercy had WiFi and I watched a few movies on my laptop as well.  I took basic hygeine stuff and my pillow.  I took socks, but they gave me a pair too.  I also took my Crocs to walk the halls in. The day of surgery and the day I went home I wore stretchy and comfy clothes.  Knit stretch shorts and a big ole Tshirt.  I was not there to impress.  LOL Hope this helps!!

Hi Nancy!  Good luck at your surgeon's visit!  I'm sure you've done some research on your surgeon anyway, but I would ask about the complications he's experienced with surgeries, and his success rate.  What does he call a success?  Above all, make sure that you've comfortable with him, and what he's going to do.  :) As for what to take to the hospital, I personally just wore the hospital gown, then I didn't have to worry about it getting messy or anything, you know?  But, that's up to you.  I took a pair of slippers, and a good book to read.  I also took my Ipod.  Oh, and don't forget some chap stick, or something like that!  I did take a bunch of other things, that I never touched.  :)  I wore a pair of knit, strechy pants and a huge T-Shirt to the hospital, then I wore the same thing home.  I was glad I had a big T-shirt, because my belly was quite swollen.  It might even be more comfortable to wear a casual dress that just hangs, then you don't have to worry about anything pushing on your waistline. Good luck to you!  I'm sure all will go well, and you'll definitely have something to be thankful for on Thanksgiving!  :)

Nancy~
I brought a pair of loose trackie bottoms to wear home and Im glad I did.. my stomach was swollen! I also brought a large tshirt and my crocs. I love my crocs and they are easy to slip on and off and great for doing those laps around your floor. I also brought my chapstick, toothbrush, hairbrush and deodorant. Hospital provided everything to take bird baths. I wore the gown they provided and I had some leakage off my Gtube so the gowns got messy and I just changed them when they got yucky, Im glad I didnt try to wear my own gowns or they would of been a mess. I brought my body pillow for the ride home and Im glad I did, made it easier to go over the bumps. Good luck sweetie!

If you post to the main board somebody should link you to a posted list of what to ask the surgeon... there are a lot of questions on it but you can narrow it down to what is important to you. Looking back now here is what I think is important... how many surgeries the surgeon has done, complications/success rate (specifically when the most comlications occur etc), how much is bypassed, what to expect in the way of weightloss... I asked my surgeon whats the biggest mistake he sees patients make that makes them unsuccessful/gain weight back, had any of their patients ever not lost weight (its rare, but happens!) what follow up support is offered? thats all I can really think of for now... its been so long :-) As for the hospital... something loose and comfy to wear home. The hospital is GERMY so bring as little with you when it comes to clothes and bring stuff you can wash. They gave me noslip socks to wear and I threw them out before I went home... dont wear your own slippers unless you can wash them or dont care about throwing them away... something like crocs is perfect since they slip on and off for your walks around... other than that the usual toiletries, chapstick, face wipes, cell phone.. that was MORE than enough... I didnt touch any of the books/mags I bought and was pretty overpacked.. as most of us are!

I just want to stress that pillow for the ride home. My hospital is an hour away from home and even with the pillow I had to have my husband stop and let me get out and walk around for a minute about two thirds of the way home. Looking back I realize I should have had some pain medicine before I left the hospital for the ride home.
