What do you do for exercise?

I'm thinking of joining curves for post op. I like the 30mins in and out thing, but I remember from doing it before that it's really hard to increase your intensity after awhile.  So...what does everyone do to get in your exercise?

I have joined curves. I'm still in my pre-op phase but I wanted to be able to start training myself now for the commitment to exercise. 30 minutes is perfect for me and my busy life.

I go to curves and walk. The 30 min. circuit is good for me. I imagine that I'll "graduate" to a "regular" gym sometime this winter.

I joined the local YMCA.  They have pools, stationary bikes, treadmills, ellipticals, weights, and classes.  You can do virtually anything there!  I mainly ride the stationary bikes and treadmill myself.

Personally I hated curves... I never felt like I really got any sort of workout going there... to me it was more of a 'social club' then working out. I prefer to put on MY music and zone out at the gym instead of moving around every few seconds!!! Anyways I do weight training 3 days a week... the days I do weight training I walk to and from the gym so I count that as my cardio... the weight training takes me 45mins-1hour and I usually cool down with some yoga at the end...  2 days a week I do cardio (walking/jogging usually) for a 5K... its now only taking me around 40 mins - when I first started it was about an hour or so... then 1 day a week I do astanga yoga which combines aerobic/strength training/flexability!

First visit to surgeon - 288 ~ bmi 45.1
2 week pre-op 252 ~ bmi 39.5
Total lost - 153 Since surgery - 117!
Goal weight - 155 (mine) 180 (surgeons)
Current weight - 135 (2020 I lost 10lbs due to dedicating myself to working out more and being in better shape)

1/14/2025 still maintaining 135 :-)

Extended TT, lipo, fat injections - 11/2011

BA/BL/Arm Lift - 7/2014

Scar revision on arms - 3/2015

I do water aerobics. Most would think it is not the greatest work-out, but our instructor kicks butt and I absolutely love it! I can see a big difference in my body also. I like the fact that while I am doing it that I am really working hard and don't sweat  (or at least don't feel the sweat) since I am in the water. I do have to drink water as my throat begins to dry and all. That's when I know I am really working out. we are constantly jumping and moving for the whole hour. Great workout for me. Hope you find what you love as well. Lisa

I LOVE water aerobics and it is a kick butt workout and a great one for your joints as you are floating and not pounding into the pavement

i started out walking half a mile every morning M-F. now i'm up to walking a mile every morning M-F. i'm hoping we have a mild winter so that i can continue that :/ i'm afraid of what will happen when it snows and i can't walk. i have a treadmill, but i absolutely hate it. i would rather walk outside any day.

I didn't like Curves, but to each his own right. I'm a member of the YMCA. It's great! They have all types of equipment, and tons of classes to choose from. From Water Aerobics, Thai Chi( Land or Water), which is great if you have arthritis, and yoga for all stages. They have nurse practitioners, wellness programs, and personal trainers. I try to get in 45-60min cardio 5 days a week. Every third day I try to weight train(really important if you are worried about extra skin). I don't feel out of place there like I did at a regular Gym. Everyone is friendly and willing to answer questions to help you anyway they can. Another plus is the FitLinx program there. It helps you weight train the right way and also keeps up with your progess in Cardio and weight training. But my suggestion is to do the research check out a Y or other Gyms. Find a place that you will actually go to. I can walk to my YMCA which helps me stay motivated. Good Luck, in the mean time, get out and check out the Halloween decorations while walking in your neighborhood. Peace, Karla
