Suz- You may love me AND hate me after my response! 1st- girl- you had a bumpier start post op than ANYONE!!! 42 lbs is GOOD, SOLID wt loss! Do not beat yourself up about that! Acknowledge that accomplishment! Your deserve the affirmation. Now, the "you might hate me part"....2 points- I am sorry- but there is no excuse to not be exercising 3 months post op! 1st 6 weeks with your complications- you were weak and trying to heal- but NOW the rubber meets the road! Oprah's quote about exercise has become my mantra.....She does not like to exercise, she actually still hates it- but she no longer fights it.....IF she wants to maintain a healthy wt, SHE HAS TO EXERCISE for the rest of her life! My surgeon, Dr Bauman, told me upon discharge from the hospital - Of the 3- getting in your protein and your water and walking daily- the walking daily is the best predicting factor of success after WLS. That naggy little thought played over and over in my mind for a full 6 weeks, before I finally got frustrated with my own slow wt loss and finally got up off my ass and began walking. Initially 30min per day and recently up to 1 hr per day.....I do NOTHING when I come home from work, before I put on my walking shoes and hit the road. It's scary- I kinda like it now! Heck- there have been days that I have walked in the morning and the evening.....I am even planning when I'll walk at the beach this weekend during the fishing tournament. Gurl- got to move to lose..... 2nd point- PLEASE do not look at your nutritional needs as a "Diet"- its pretty simple stuff- ALWAYS chose a healthy lean protein 1st- should fit in the palm of your hand ( no need to measure or weigh), then veggies and fruit. Keep it simple, yet focused. Remind yourself that your DESERVE to be fit, trim and healthy and you DO NOT deserve to battle obesity for the rest of your life. I KNOW YOU WILL SUCCEED!!! NO DOUBTS!!! Hops of the soapbox- love you girl and I am proud of you NOW and in the future!!!! Can't wait to see you on Sunday! Sheila

I am a work in progress and I am committed to progress with the work ahead of me.....

Awwww Sheila, you know I just plain love you, girl! You are absolutely right about the exercise.  I have no excuse!  Well, a tiny one.  I really am afraid to start walking any distance again as I have a tendonitis in my ankle/foot that has been plaguing me for about 2 years now and it seems to get worse when I walk or use the elliptical.  But we have trainers at our gym at work and I WILL ask them for advice and suggestions. As for the second point, I feel that as long as I am so vigilant about what I am eating, then I am on a diet of some sort.  And in my mind, diets fail.  I know I just have to work my head around this obstacle and I will be fine.  Thank you as always for your love and support.  I needed that!

Suz~

First of all LOOK at what you have lost!!! you have done fantastic girlfriend!!! Do you know how long it takes a regular dieter to lose that kind of weight? let me tell you it took me amost a full year to lose 26 pounds so 45 lbs would of taken me another year... you have done wonderful!!!!!!! I am not a measuring type of person either so I try to just eyeball things and you are right, drink a extra shake at work to keep you going. If I let myself get too hungry I want to dive into food and thats not going to solve anything but a trip to the toilet LOL You have been a wonderful friend and a true inspiration to me, I want you to hold your head up and get out of this down and out rut. Remember that everyone is going to hit a plateu and stall out from time to time. I want you to PLEASE STOP comparing your journey to others... that is sooo hard on you!!! I agree the ladies here have been Rockin the pouch AND YOU WILL TOO.. everyone is set up differently sweetie!! Have you been walking at all? I used to be a hardcore gym bunny last year and I got burned out in a heartbeat. Now I take my dogs out and walk around the neighborhood and its just as good as going to the gym. Try to do something that makes that sexy body move! Remember how important those fluids are. I have a hard time getting in 64 oz and when I do get them all in I feel a lot better and I dont want to eat as much. Like the others said maybe a trip to the NUT to see if they have any suggestions. You can do this Suz... your just in a rut right now but I see you moving up and out of it N O W!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love ya

Darcie

Darcie, you really touched me with your kind support.  I cannot thank you enough.  I WILL get to the gym (had to go to the dentist today) and I WILL climb out of this rut!  It's a happenin' thing! Love you, Darcie!

What a minute...haven't you lost 45lbs? That's fantastic. Isn't it normal to go through periods of slower loss, no loss? Sure, you might not be "perfect", but you sound like you're doing pretty darn well to me!

Thank you so much!  I feel a bit ashamed for being such a brat yesterday.  And thank you for the reminder that I have no right to expect perfection of myself.

Suzanne -

First of all, remember that you have lost 45 lbs!!!! You may have only lost 3 in the last three months, but you may have hit an early stall.

I think seeing your nut. and adding a shake may help, but I agree with Sheila. Work on getting in that lean protien first. Follow that with vegis/fruit. Be sure to get in the fluids. And last, but certainly not least MOVE... If you hate exercise, find something you do like. Do like to dance? ... even if it has to be when no one is looking ... LOL ... Walking is great because you can do it anywhere. If you don't have one already, consider getting an MP3 player and loading it with music to walk to. The exercise is soooooo important. It's one of those make or break your long-term success things. According to Dr. DeMaria, you will lose the weight in the first year ... but, keeping it off statistically lies with those who attend some sort of support group regularly ... OH probably works for that ... and adding exercise to your life.

Please don't beat yourself up. You are doing the right things. You are reaching out for support. Your going to meet with the nut. Start walking. It's working and it's going to continue to work.

Hang in there my friend.

Love,

Barb

Thanks, Barb.  Your friendship means a lot, as does your support and advice.  Sometimes I am so close to something I can't see it, y'know?  I am going to work on more veggies as "snacks" rather than the "nutty" type of things...  see if that helps.  And I believe I will get to the gym tomorrow afternoon when I get out of work and see if I can get signed up again! Thanks again!
