I take approximately 5000 mcg a day, spread out over the course of my day, not all at once.

Own it all, it's yours!

Yes, I have noticed my hair getting "thinner" as though it "fluffs out" less.  Also seeing a lot more on the brush... I have been taking biotin daily, 1000 micrograms.  My hairdresser suggested prenatal vitamins for both skin and nails.  Might not be a bad idea for a while...

Prenatal vitamins would work I am sure.. but the thought of chewing or crushing them.  BLEH.

Oh no way is THAT gonna happen!  I take all my supplements whole except for the sub-lingual B12.

This may sound like a crazy question...What is causing your hair to either get thinner or thicker? Is this an affect of medications that you have to take after WLS or a direct affect of the surgery?

I am new to the OH forums, and will be starting the long road ahead mid November with attending seminars, and meeting with surgeons to discuss my options.

Thanks for your help!

Most people have hair loss between 3-6 months after surgery because your body is just in a state of shock.. so to speak.   I found this better explaination online:

Transient Hair Loss Almost every gastric bypass and BPD patient suffers hair loss and hair thinning during the first six months. Hair loss is alarming, however it will not lead to baldness and it is reversible. Once your weight stabilizes and you consume more protein, the hair will grow back. Hair treatments and permanents should be avoided.  Mine has gotten thicker, but I think it is because I am taking a ton of vitamins.

I had pretty bad hair loss at about 3-8 months.  I started with very thick hair but even lost my widow's peak after a few months.  I ended up just giving in and having it cut very short.  It is finally growing back now - but curly!  However, it is still very fragile.  Like another poster said, treat your hair gently.  I colored mine and ended up with a lot of breakage.
