Surgery was a success - I'm home!

Hi everyone!

My surgery last Tuesday went really well.  I came home on Thursday and have been getting better every day.  Hubby has been so incredibly helpful, and I've been overwhelmed by my friends' show of support.

Today is the first day I felt like bothering with the computer, boy did I miss it!  :)  I'm on pain killers only at night now.  I think the day's activities catch up to me after 9:00.  I'm getting all my water in, thanks to the purchase of a watch with timer.  I set it up to beep every 15 minutes.  Then I sip an ounce.  Without that, I would probably be dehydrated, just because the time seems to go so fast...I would forget!  :)  I'm working hard at the protein.  I'm supposed to be getting 70 gms a day, but that's proving to be difficult, when I'm drinking 1 ounce at a time!  Plus, it totally fills me up!  Ugh.  Slow going.  The bullets seem to be the easiest so far, just because there's so much protein packed into a small amount of liquid.  What did you guys do for protein in the clear liquid phase?

I lost 10 pounds on the pre-surgery diet, and had gained them all back from surgery.  :(  But no worries, I'm sure it was all fluid, they were gone again by Saturday.  Now I'm down another 6!  But that's according to my home scale.  I can't wait until till tomorrow's follow-up appointment.  I'll get my drain out, staples out, and most important...I'll get weighed!  :) Overall, things are going well.  I'm still in shock that it's actually done!  Now it's up to me to follow directions and make the most of this tool!

YAY Deb!!  I am so glad to hear you are doing so well.  :)   Those bullets kill me.. I have three cases that I cannot drink.  Protein is the hardest for me and I struggle with it every day.

Yippie Deb!  Watch out, cause I'm coming behind you.   I can hardly wait to say an ounce of anything "fills me up."    As hard as I try to imagine that, I just can't.

I like the Isopure ready to drink bottles, kinda like protein kool-aid.  I was able to count them both as water AND protein......they're at GNC.   Nancy

I don't mind the Isopure, but right now it really fills me up, and I can't drink enough of it to get my 70 grams of protein a day.  I'm sure that will get better as time goes on, but for now the bullets seem to be the only thing that allows me to get enough protein in.  I'm not crazy about them, but they work for now.  Tomorrow I start full liquids!  I can't wait for Carnation Instant Breakfast and maybe some smoothies.

Do tell where and what kind of watch you have.   When I get busy in the classroom I forget to drink.  I need a reminder about every 15 minutes to get me back on track.  Congrats on your surgery.  I hope you continue to recover well!

I bought the Ironman Triathalon by Timex.  I think I bought it at Hudson Belk at Streets at Southpoint in Raleigh, but I'm sure they have it all over the place.  It comes in a bunch of different colors, and is pretty user-friendly.  It's truly my lifesaver!
