Very overwhelmed with surgery next week...

Hi gang!   I kept thinking that I was going to get through this little phase of anxiety/overwhelmed, etc.  But, I realize that I just need to reach out.  I am having surgery next Thursday and there is so much going on in my life that I cannot fathom having surgery.    I have 3 small children and we have all been sick over the last two weeks with strep.   Then, some crazy bacterial infection happened to our dog and she has spread it all over the house.  The vet told me to take everything and Lysol it, throw some things away, and bleach it.    On top of being sick, being on a diet prior to surgery, my children being sick....there is so much to get done before next week and I have NO idea how any of it will get done.  Let alone disinfect the entire house and laundry.   I know for SURE why i am having this surgery.  The doc put me on Atkins (Induction) and then a liquid diet and I feel like I could pass out every day.   I have no energy to handle all of this.   No wonder I went off and on diets a million times.   My mother usually helps me out with our children, but, my dad just went into the hospital this week and had stints put into his heart.   So, she will be out of the picture for a while.   I feel really alone.  My husband is great...it is not him.   He can only do so much though and frankly, he is feeling overwhelmed and I am VERY worried about him.  I have no support system.   My sisters love me, but, don't agree with me on the surgery.   I am overwhelmed on how I am going to remotely recover and take care of the house and our children without any support system.  Can anyone send some love my way?   Caroline

I'm so sorry this is all snowballing right now Catherine.  Take a moment and remember why you are doing this surgery, what are you hoping to accomplish?  Hopefully that will spur you on.  You will be in my thoughts and prayers.  I am sure everything will work out. Take care. Ellen

Own it all, it's yours!

Hi,  I understand how you are feeling because I went through the same kind of things before my surgery.  I had gastric 3 months ago and just weeks before I had emergency appendix and my husband was recovering from 3 epidurals in his lower back.  I honestly felt like I was going crazy.  And to add to it the day of my surgery my dad was admitted into ICU with congestive heart failure so my mom could not be my support person and my husband was unable to take time off work either.   But I made it and the surgery was easier to recover from than the appendix.  I found out that I really could take care of myself pretty good and my 3 kids.  Yes we did spend a lot of quiet time watching TV but they enjoyed taking care of mom too.  They even went on my walks with me. Having gastric bypass has honestly been the best decision of my life.  I feel like I am alive again.  I am saying a prayer for you and God bless.

Im sending you some pixie dust to help things out and sending you good wishes step back and take a breath and remember you are not super woman. Im sorry your family has been sick, I wish you lived closer and I could give you a hand around the house or help out in anyway possible. Im sorry your family is not supporting you in your decision but just remember it is YOUR TIME and it will only benefit you to have it done. I hope you have a easy recovery with no complications as far as your house goes I would do whatever you can before your big day. If you need to talk on the phone just to let everything out let me know, I am only a phone call away.

((((((Caroline))))))

I'm so sorry that you are having such a rough time right now. Sometimes it seems like things really snowball.

I know that your sisters don't support your decision, but maybe they can still step in and help a bit.

I'm heading to TX for a wedding this week-end, but I'll be back in town Monday. If you want/need some help, just yell. I'll be glad to roll up my sleaves and give you a hand. Also, I want you to feel free to give me a call if you want to talk.

You will get through this and when you do, you will feel much better. I promise.

Keeping you in thought and prayer,

Barb

(((((((((((Caroline)))))))))))  Hugs being sent your way!  I know you feel overwhelmed right now but this too will pass!  I'm sorry everyone is sick but think of it this way, they're sick right now so hopefully they'll feel better by your surgery date and can take care of you a bit (even the small ones with their smiles and little hugs).  You will get the house in order and if you don't nobody's going to judge you because of it.  Your Mom and Hubby will be there for you I'm sure, even if you think they have too much on their own plate.    I feel your pain about your siblings not supporting your decision.  My Brother and Sister both didn't agree with my WLS and my parents were very worried about it.   I told them that if I didn't have WLS then my health would continue getting worse.  It took a while but both my Brother and Sister are very proud of my success and continue to cheer me on.   I wish I lived closer to you and I'd come out and help!  You always have your WLS family to support you, please never feel like you're going this alone!  You have more support than you're going to know what to do with!

I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers!

Big Hug I echo what everyone else has said already. Keeping you and yours in my thoughts and prayers. I know it's such a battle and anxious wait to get to your surgery date, but perhaps if you feel you are not able to handle it right now you can reschedule. You need to be in your best fighting form. You know what you're up for better than anyone.  Take care, friend. xoxo Mare

It can all be quite overwhelming.  Our life is crazy hectic right now too, so I empathize.   My sister TOTALLY was not in my corner for this surgery.  However, to get her on my side I took her with me for my pre-surgery interview and since I have been doing so well, she has crossed over to the dark side..  LOL  Now she wants it done!!  Just be patient and pray.  That is what I did with Beth.  :)
