went to see my NUT today I must admit I like her very much and think she is great at what she does. I am almost out of the 300's my weight this morning was 312. Any ideas on protien rich foods would be great. Need more protien and not from PB or cheese even tho she says I can have the stuff but to try other things.                                           Annie

Annie- My protein of choice is seafood, seafood and more seafood! If you and Lee head to the coast anytime soon- bring a cooler and stock up on shrimp! Last night I made seafood chowder with clams/fresh blue fish and shrimp- its got over 30grams of protein in 6 ounces. Watch for sales locally for tuna or salmon. Congrats on the wt loss! You will be in the 200's so soon! Great job! Sheila

I am a work in progress and I am committed to progress with the work ahead of me.....

Hi Sheila, We are coming down to Topsail the end of this month with our deck boat to put in at the sound. I never have fished the sound but I am sure it is so much better than fishing at a lake. As for seafood I love the stuff cant ever get enough LOL In fact tonight I am going to have red snapper. Would love to have your chowder recipe. 30grams in 6oz that is great !                                   Annie

PB and cheese are both great protein but high in fat so you have to eat in moderation. Of course you can do the LF cheese which helps some but I think full fat cheese tastes much better. Ive really cut a lot of cheese out of my diet because I love it too much!! I will have it as a treat or on pizza but thats pretty much it.. no more on salad, in tacos, on sammies etc. Protein rich foods - of course meats are the highest protein... tuna fish, lean deli turkey, deli chicken, regular chicken, ground turkey are all great choices (I only eat red meat once a week and the only seafood I eat is tuna in the pouch!). Soy products are good for protein as well... there are so many options these days!!!  A great recipe for early out (that I still make all the time!!) you can adjust to taste... it comes out super moist so it should go down easy. Put 2 chicken breasts in the crock pot sprinkle 1/2 a packet of old el paso taco seasoning (I use low sodium) (do NOT add water!!!) add some salsa... make yourself pico style or from a can/jar... I found certain ones were too acidic early out and opted for fresh made vs can/jar Cook on high for two hours and then shred chicken with a fork. I use this as a taco filling. I take lo-carb whole wheat tortilla put in the chicken, add some tomatillo sauce and a little sour cream... its deeeeelicious.  Another good chicken recipe is to take chicken breasts put each one on an individual piece of tin foil, cover with some maranara sauce (I use trader joes - its no sugar added!!!), put some basil, chopped garlic if you prefer and put some italian cheese or provolone on top... use the tin foil to make a packet around the chicken (leaving room for steam!) and cook for about 20 mins... its like a breadless chicken parm. Because its cooked in the tinfoil along with the sauce it stays very moist as well. Again watch out for the acidicness of the sketti sauce! I love to serve this with some green giant sugar snap peas!

Thanks for the chicken ideas. I love chicken but have had a hard time with it up until now. I had some canned chicken on a salad last night and it worked out great. I am still very afraid to try bread or wraps afraid of it getting stuck. Jennifer look at your meter only 3 more pounds ! You must feel great. Congratulations on a job very well done.                                          Annie

Annie -

Congrats on rounding the curve to Twotersville... You'll be there before you know it.

I agree with Sheila that seafood is a fabulous source of protien. I always keep shrimp in the freezer so that I can have a quick meal if need be. It's high in protien and low in calories. All of the seafood is great. Some pack a high protien wallop than others, but they are all good and go down easily.

You might consider egg salad made w/Fat Free mayo. I even add cottage and tofu to it too to boost that protien even higher. It goes down very easily and is full of protien and not much fat. Great in a tomatoe!

If you like beans, they are a fabulous source of protien. While they do have carbs, I tend to use them for side dishes and/or meals. I love them in soups, chilis and cassoulets ... mmmm.

Rotisserie style chicken tends to be moist and might be a good choice. Of course, you can always crockpot a beef or pork roast. I also roast lean pork loins in the oven on even in the BBQ ... just bring the internal temp up to 165.

I have a really nice cookbook from Better Homes and Gardens that is geared towards low-carb cooking ... hence, most recipes are nice and high in protien. The title is Better Homes and Gardens Phase 1 Low-Carb Recipes. They also have a Phase 2 cookbook that I plan to check out.

Hope those ideas help some.

Congratulations again on your healthy decent!

Barb

Hi Barb, not many people  can understand what it feels like to be in or near twoterville but this girl cant even remember being there. Twoterville is so much better than 600 plus. I am going to go check out the cookbooks you mentoned in Amazon and if they arent to pricey I am going to get them. One more eye surgery left to do and that will be behind me. My vision is getting better each day so much so I can see the computer and read magazines without a lens or glasses.                                   Annie

Congratulations, Annie, on your remarkable weight loss.  Regarding protein, I can only repeat the seafood recommendations because not only are they high in protein, but also low in fat and calories.  Crabmeat is easy on a new pouch.  Mussels and clams go down easy as well.  Soft, moist fish like tilapia are also good. Hope this helps!
