I'm Home
I got home Friday around 10:30 am. I went right to bed while my Dad went to get my Loratab rx. I do feel better each day, but when people describe the first initial days of "feeling like you were hit by a mack truck," they aren't kidding.
I was so glad to get home, get a shower and sleep in my own bed. I have always liked a lot of pillows so it has helped me find a comfortable position on my sides because my back has hurt too much over the last 5 months for me to lie on my back. That became very difficult in the hospital.
One tip, someone at my church that had had WLS talked about getting a small pillow from the hospital to use when getting up. I forgot about it until I was getting ready to be willed out of my room and saw someone walking with one. I asked for one and boy, do I wish I had had it the first day.
PCMH was great and the only problem I had was being sure I got my heparin on time. Both shifts of nurses were good. My Dad is going to leave today. I get better each day and just mainly need to stay off my feet when needed and rest. I thankfully never had any gas from the lap gas, but do walk around often just to help my muscles and the healing. I agree with others that initially you do question "what in the world have I done!" It does get better each day.
Welcome home! Glad to hear that all went well. I'm not looking forward to the "mack truck" fun, but it will pass with time. That fact that you say it gets better every day helps.
I have a question. How do you use the pillow to help you get up? And what do you mean a small pillow? Is it just a regular pillow that's not too fluffy? I want to be as prepared as possible! I hope you continue to feel better every day, soon you'll be telling us that you're officially on the loser's bench...warm it up for me!
Hi Belinda -
Glad to hear that you are home and resting more comfortably now. As you say, it will get better with each passing day.
Keep walking, sipping and getting in that protien which will help you heal and give you strength. Stay on top of the pain ... Over time, it really gets a lot better. I was fortunate and didn't have to use a great deal of the pain meds that they sent home, but I was glad that I used it when I needed it.
Take care and welcome to the loser's bench.
