Medical History Gaps

I began assembling all of my "stuff" for the insurance submission prior to meeting with my surgeon because I want to be fully prepared.  Well you have to have 5 years of medical weigh ins?  I didn't go to a physician every year as I was a traveling computer consultant for the last 8.  However I can go back for the last 13 years (off and on) for different medical visits.  I will have to contact these people and try to see if they are still in existance or not.   Does it matter if the medical weigh ins are not every year if you go back 13 years?

Again ... can't answer you specifically on this issue. Try xposting to the insurance, rny and main boards where you will likely get more exposure to others who may have come across this issue.

Good luck!

I know my years went way back and were not consecutive. I just had to have 5 years where my BMI was at least 40. They weren't consecutive cause I didn't go faithfully every year either. Good luck. Lisa

I believe most insurances will accept a photo if you didn't go to the doctor during some period of time.  I read that somewhere....  Good luck.  Alice

Typically they want the most recent 5 years. If you do not have you can get what you do have and appeal. Also as a side note Drs offices only keep files in their office for so long - if you are *not an active patient* typically after 1-2 years they will put into storage. After 3-5 years your records will be destroyed (they are not required to keep them for any period of time as far as I know). Just wanted to give you a heads up because I also struggled with getting medical records together and came across that a few times. If a Dr has put your records into storage it can take up to 6 weeks for them to get the records back out.  If you have insurance previously you can contact them for any claims filed... this helped me because there were visits I hadnt remembered going to - like seeing a Dr only one time for a cold and then switching to another Dr etc. I also had ER visits I was able to get records from to submit. Anything and everything will help!

Other options I learned of through the Insurance Processor are :

Urgent Care places, Emergency Room visits, The Y, Gym, Curves, etc. Any Weight Management place like Weigh****chers, LA Weight Loss, Inches Aweigh...etc.

She said ANY documented weight from anywhere is generally accepted especially if you are just 'filling in some gaps'.

Best wishes. Karen
