Insurance change

Hello - I need to change my current BC/BS of NC Blue Advantagefrom plan C (cheaper) to plan A(better coverage more expensive) in order to cover my RNY.  I have the insurance myself - not through my company.  Do you think that changing my insurance plan from a lower to a higher quality within a short time of submitting for the RNY approval will be negative?  I wasn't sure or not ... anyone have any thoughts or experience doing this?

I'm afraid that I don't have answer for you, but I think you might want to consider xposting this to the insurance, rny and main boards. You might get some hits there from others who have done the same thing.

All the best,

Barb

post the question on the insurance board, there is an expert on insurance that moderates that board I think.

Before changing plans I would find out if they have a pre-existing limitation. Also you will need to change insurance plans PRIOR to submitting for RNY approval. If you submit to the low plan, then switch plans you will have to go thru the entire process again. Approvals do not transfer from plan to plan even if they are with the same company. You have an individual plan? As far as I knew there wasnt one offered that covered Gastric Bypass?

Call your dr's office and ask them, there should be someone there who can answer. Personally, I think that it should be fine, however, I just switched to BCBSNC and they are wack jobs in my opinion.  United Health Care was who my insurance was with when I had RNY and they were awsome.
