Does Dr. Bauman require all patients to go on a diet pre-op?  If so for how long?

No preop diet - he feels that the 2 weeks post op is tough enough. Now if you gain wait during your preop period he will cancel the surgery so it's not one endless buffet.  Good Luclk.  PM me if you have anymore questions.  I had my surgery with him and i will help you if I can.  Jen

"All" patients are not required to go on a preop diet; however, "some" are.  It is very individualized with him.  Sometimes, he does require patients to lose "x" amount of weight preop, but more often than not he does not require you to do a preop diet at all.   I did not have to go on a preop diet for him.  I did have to have 6 months of "MD supervised weight loss attempts" documented but it was for insurance and not for Dr. Bauman.  I do know a couple of his patients, though, who have had to go on preop diets, one who has to lose 50 lb before he will consider surgery on her.  It has to do with their health issues, their body habitus, and perhaps just their level of commitment -- he has the reasons for it, but doesn't require it across the board.
