Questions for Dr. Baumans patients
"All" patients are not required to go on a preop diet; however, "some" are. It is very individualized with him. Sometimes, he does require patients to lose "x" amount of weight preop, but more often than not he does not require you to do a preop diet at all.
I did not have to go on a preop diet for him. I did have to have 6 months of "MD supervised weight loss attempts" documented but it was for insurance and not for Dr. Bauman. I do know a couple of his patients, though, who have had to go on preop diets, one who has to lose 50 lb before he will consider surgery on her. It has to do with their health issues, their body habitus, and perhaps just their level of commitment -- he has the reasons for it, but doesn't require it across the board.
