Anyone had surgery at Duke WLS?

I have a date for October 1 with Dr. Demaria, has anyone had him do their surgery? Just curious to know if they liked him or not. Thanks Angie

First of all ...Congratulations on your surgery date! I had Dr. DeMaria. You can read my blog for details. I think that he is very technically competent and that is most important. He is not very warm and fuzzy though.

I know that this was the best thing I've ever done for myself ... I hope that you will feel the same way.

I am with Duke WLS.   My surgery date is 10/11.   You are a little ahead of me.   However, I am with Dr. Portenier.     Barb can give you a lot more information on Dr. Demaria.    Let us know how everything is going with you!! Caroline

I will hopefully be having surgery at Duke.  I am still in the waiting process until they submit me to insurance.  How long did you guys have to wait between your first appt and being submitted to insurance? Congrats and good luck!

It depends on where you are in the process. Once you have all of your tests done and meet with the nutritionist, psychologist and have the medical exam it takes 'em about 2 weeks to transcribe the notes and put things together. If you still have to have some tests run, it just depends on how long it takes you to get those done. Once everything is turned in, it takes a few days for Beth to check it all and submit it to your insurer. Each insurer has a different contractual timeline for responding once submitted.

I went to my first appt with all my tests done already and it has been a month since then.  I really hope I hear something soon.  I am holding off applying for jobs because I don't know when my surgery is going to be.  I have BCBS state employees insurance, so it shouldn't take long after it is submitted.  Thanks for your insight!
