Does anyone know their smoking policy? I quit over 6 weeks ago but some doctors want months and months and do blood tests and everything else... Any insights?

I think it is minimum of a month.  My husband smokes and he went with me on my first consult and I think that is what Dr. B said to us.  I do not smoke, but my husband just asked.   does anyone else know the exact... don't want to steer you wrong...I know how important this is.  Congrats on stopping!!  That is awesome.   Connie

Lexi, Congratulations on quitting smoking!  That is fantastic.  I was actually "delivered" from cigarette smoking when I had my church elders and other members lay hands on me 4 years ago.  It was a miracle and I am so thankful to the Lord for all He has done in my life.  I had initially wanted Dr. Bauman as my surgeon, but it was too far from my home (90 miles) so I went to Chapel Hill with Dr. Farrell.  But I remember them saying  if I smoked I would have to quit.  I know Dr. Bauman is one of the best in the state, so you are in good hands! Blessings, Dianef

i actually haven't had the procedure done yet. i've only went in for my consult. i was originally looking at doing RNY but changed my mind to lap band. the whole idea of rearranging my insides just really freaked me out and made me uncomfortable no matter how much i tried to look at what good it would do me. since i changed to lap band, i have to loose 50lbs before insurance will cover it. (have to have a BMI < 50) so, if ya'll have any ideas on how i can quickly loose 50lbs let me know!

dolphin I was looking at lapband for the same reasons but after reading here and doing more research i chose the vertical sleeve gasterectomy.
