Member Diane Fowler will lead this hike along the Buckquarter Creek Trail and the Holden Mill Trail. The total distance we will walk is 2.0 miles and we'll take it easy so all levels of hiker can keep up. I am surely the slowest walker in the group, so no one has to worry about not keeping up! Hiking boots are highly recommended. Be sure to bring water, a good walking stick helps and be prepared to have fun! There will be a surprise gift for everyone who completes the two mile hike. For those who work up an appetite, we will be having lunch at Port City Java, 2424 Erwin Road, Suite 303, in Durham (919) 286-6050. The restaurant is about 9 miles from the hiking location. I chose this restaurant because it serves wonderful coffee, soups and salads and is a great location for group activites. Here is a link to their lunch menu.

Getting to the park:
From Durham or Raleigh take I85 south and get off at exit 173, Cole Mill Road. Make a right at the end of the exit ramp and follow Cole Mill Road straight to its very end in the park. Drive a short way into the park and a sign will direct you to make a right turn into the parking area for the Piper Cox House and the Buckquarter Creek Trail. We will meet at that parking lot. If you drive all the way into the park, you will dead end in a parking lot that has a bathroom on the right. On the way up Cole Mill Road, you'll pass the Cole Mill access to the park. DON'T get off there.
From Chapel Hill, take 15-501 into Durham and get off on Hillsboro Road heading west. In about a quarter mile, make a right into Hillsboro Road (you go under I85) and then follow above directions.
From the park to the restaurant:
1: Start out going SOUTH on COLE MILL RD toward OJ JONES HOMESTEAD RD. 0.9 miles
2: Turn RIGHT onto PLEASANT GREEN RD. 2.1 miles
3: Turn LEFT onto US-70 E. 0.2 miles
4: Merge onto I-85 N via the ramp on the LEFT. 2.1 miles
5: Keep RIGHT to take NC-147 S via EXIT 172 toward DURHAM/ RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK. 2.4 miles
6: Take the HILLANDALE RD / FULTON ST exit. 0.2 miles
7: Merge onto FULTON ST. 0.3 miles
8: Turn RIGHT onto ERWIN RD. 0.1 miles
9: End at Port City Java:
2424 Erwin Rd, Durham, NC 27705
