Good morning everyone!  On Friday I found out that my body is in starvation mode and that I am not loosing anymore fat (only muscle and water) because of this.  My goal is to get in 800-1000 calories a day and have to take the Glucerna shakes in my G-Tube twice a day for the calories.   I am back on the protien only thing.  I would love to know what everyone else is eating.  Here is my sample from yesterday... Suggestions...comments....Please share...I NEED THE HELP!!1

Gosh I am sorry to hear you are having so many problems, Candice!  I am not a nutritionist, but I can tell you what I ate yesterday.  Afraid I don't pay that much attention to grams of protein although I do make sure I am getting in enough by doing a rough count every day. 2 oz chicken nuggets (homemade) with duck sauce and about half a yellow squash, batter fried as well, and well drained 6 oz lite yogurt half a Detour protein bar half a can of tuna (in water) mixed with about 2 Tablespoons lite mayo, a stick of minced celery, lemon juice, and about 6 minced olives.  Served on a fresh tomato. I drink at least a half gallon of water every day, and usually add some fresh fruit to the equation. Maybe if you ate more frequently?  Your meal seem rather large to me.  Do you like Chinese food?  Mexican food?  Italian food?  Eggs?  At this stage I would not be afraid to eat some higher calorie foods like the fried foods I had yesterday.  I have not experienced any dumping or adverse reaction to them.  Of course I do drain carefully. Gosh I hope this helps!  Please let us know how you are doing.

Thanks Suzanne!  This is really helpful...  I think you are right about eating more often.  I have a hard time getting the 5 meals a day in.  My surgeon suggested the same thing on Friday about eating smaller portions more times a day to overall get more in.  thanks for your well wishes... I look forward to seeing you at the beach! Candice

So glad to hear you will be there! Also was thinking of higher calorie foods like deviled eggs?  What about cheeses?  Or adding cheese to whatever you are eating? See you at the beach!

OH I forgot!  To yesterday's menu add 4 Ritz crackers, each with about a teaspoon of natural peanut butter spread on them!

That sounds really yummy. Thanks for all the good suggestions.  I am going to try and eat more frequently today.  Let's see what happens. Thanks again, Candice

Are you tracking your fat? I would watch your fat as well and make sure you are falling where you should be. Im assuming you arnt allowed any veggies at this point since you mentioned protein only. I would suggest maybe a higher calorie protein shake? So you are getting the most out of the shake? Just an idea. I would also try and make your meals balanced... make sure you arnt getting a lot of calories at one meal and then a little at the next...  As for other protein sources... cottage cheese and yogurt were always a fav of mine! Also tuna and chicken :-)

Candice -

All of Jennifer's suggestions are good. I'd be especially careful with the fat content ... More calories from protien will hold you in good stead.

Here's what I had ... hope it's a helpful snapshot

What is the proper number of ...carbs....protein ....fat ...and sugar that should be consumed in a day. It looks like batter fried food would soak up more greese. and none batter with olive oil would be better. I have not had surgery  yet  and do not know what the rules are. Myrtis

Myrtis,  Your thinking is more along the lines of mine.  In our program, they suggest that we not have fried battered things.  We can use "Better Butter" 1/2 canola oil to 1/2 butter or olive oil to pan sear something but definately no frying.  Also, it seems that other program can have MANY MANY carbs (like mashed potatoes, etc) and our program is focused on protien only in the begining phases.  Carbs in general are acceptable in dairy and what comes in the small abouts of fruits and vegetables that you eat.  I guess I am struggling most with staying within the guidelines of my program (healthy eating) and gettting in the suggested calories 800-1000.  Thanks for posting. How are things for you?
