On Tuesday, September 11, 2007 everyone in the USA who will be driving a motor vehicle is asked to drive with their headlights on during daylight hours. Though no explanation is needed as to why we are commemorating September 11, we hope more importantly to pay respect to the victims of that day, show our nation's solidarity and show support for our men and women of the Armed Forces.

It is never too late to be what you might have been.?

I totally agree with you and I will be driving with mine on.  I watched the movie Flight 93 and cried through almost the whole thing.

This is a neat idea and one I remember from years past.  I was curious about whether this was an urban legand kind of thing and so went to www.snopes.com for info.  They mentioned that this has been a grass roots kind of thing (ie. not an official act of any specific group or govt) since 9/11/2002.  They also suggested some other ways to commemorate.  Wear red, white and blue.  At noon, no matter where you are, stop, put your hand over your heart, and say the pledge of Allegiance, either silently or aloud, and then say a prayer for our country.  Also, 9/11 is Patriots Day, and the President has requested folks fly the flag at half mast in tribute to those who died on that day.  I plan to do all of the above.

I'll never forget that day and where I was, as most American's probably won't. I was still living in NY at the time. I worked for a retired NY city police officer. I was on the phone with a customer who had his television turned on at the time when it was interrupted with news of the first plane hitting the towers. He was sobbing on the phone telling me what had happened. I hung up and told my boss what Mr. Avery just said. My boss knew immediately that it was no accident. Something huge was happening to us. He closed the business, sent us all home and said we should be with our families right now. He knew that something major was taking place.       I lived out at the end of Long Island, but I remember everything shutting down...businesses, tunnels, bridges. Going back to work later in the week and talking to my customers...the majority of who lived or worked in Manhattan...was an emotional job, to say the very least. Each one seemed to have to talk about that day and what they had gone through. I got to know each one rather well in the 4 years I worked there. I guess they just felt comfortable having a friendly ear to listen as they needed to talk about what they saw/heard/smelled, the friends and family they lost. It was all quite overwhelming. Many of them moved from NY out to the Island permanantly after 9/11.       What a horrilble, devastating day for all of us. I don't think there is a single person that wasn't touched in some way by this catastrophic event.  My love and prayers go out to all. They are not alone in their grief. Love to all of you, my OH family, Mare xoxo  WTC Never Forget

Sorry, Annie,      Didn't mean to "kill" your post with my somber memories of 9/11. Of course that's a wonderful idea and I am all for it, as is everyone else. I didn't mean to put such a personal spin on it. That date just seems to open up the wounds again each year. I just feel comfortable wiht you all...sharing EVERYTHING.  Hope I didn't bring anyone down. It wasn't my intention, sweets. I'm going to my "happy place" now..,.with flowers, and rainbows, and little fairies and chocolate covered cherries... xoxoxo Mare
