I'm a month out now and starting to eat solids and have already discovered I have no stomach (no pun intended) for two things I used to live on.   1.)  Coffee 2.) Homemade Iced tea Are there any foods that you loved before but you can't stand now?  Nancy

Hi Nance!  And Sheila! DEFINITELY coffee!!!  No longer like the Lipton Diet Green Tea either. Actually, most foods nauseate me.  I am really struggling trying to get that protein in.  And the smell of food cooking really sets me off! I am making slow progress, however.  I can't keep my son hostage FOREVER!!! Have a great night, Ladies!

I was never an iced tea fan... but now.  WOW.. I am loving some iced tea sweetened with Splenda.  It is my daily "fix". I used to LOVE Dt. Mt. Dew.  I drank a bit a few weeks ago and BLEH.  Not so special anymore.  Also..  I don't like eggs or grits much at all anymore either.   It is weird how things have changed.  :)  But I am okay with it all!!!

Stuff they try and pass off as food that really isnt... I found now I cant stand all those fake chemical/preserative loaded foods... as stated above, diet coke - yuck... fast food - yuck... junk food - yuck! Once you stop eating all the junk and let your taste buds rest you see how bad it all really tasted!

Hi Nancy, Most foods I loved before I can't stand now.  I've learned not to trust my sense of smell where eating is concerned.  Just because it smells good.... watch out . Listed are my perceptions of food since surgery: 1.  Can't stand meat unless it is soup, cut up very small 2.  Can't stand the smell of ketchup. 3.  Eggs are out. 4.  Potato salad looks like lard to me now, pure hard lard. 5.  Bread tastes like pure yeast... yuk 6.  Sugar tastes very bitter to me now.. just awful 7.  My sister made a chocolate cake with chocolate icing last weekend and it reminded me of cheap, sugar packed, chocolate flavored lard. 8.  Shrimp tastes like little lumps of rubber that may have worn off my tires. 9.  Oatmeal and grits... just can't talk about that. 10.  Pancakes:  Open the flour jar, add tons of sugar and JUMP IN! 11.  Pasta of any kind:  slimy slippery food substance with no nutritional value 12.  Rice:  flavorless, carb filled nothing that will swell up in my pouch and not let the good stuff in. 13:  Keilbasa:  Sausages of pork substances God knows what:  that has been injected with as much fat and oil as possible without the skin bursting... nasty greasy and not appealing at all. 14.  Hot Dogs:  What exactly are they anyway?  Scared to go near them. 15.  Fish sticks:  Open one up.  Where's the fish?  Could it be those little white flecks stuck in the breading?  No thanks. Food now needs to be fresh.  I eat 6 small meals a day.  I do not eat any canned meat, tuna, chicken and those other potted meat things I used to love, sardines, oysters all dripping in that nasty yellow oil that looks like machine oil, 3 in 1. Never liked coffee much... LOVE it now.  Don't care much for my raspberry tea I used to love. ok enough dirty talk for the day! hugs, DianeF

LMAO Diane.......... 8.  Shrimp tastes like little lumps of rubber that may have worn off my tires. Sounds like you need some fresh stuff!  You're a hoot!  Loved the comparisons! Nancy

Sadly nothing really taste the same and I honestly wonder what about this surgery does this.  Does it happen to lap banders also?  If so than it must be the shrinking of the stomach because it started day one.  Yes I too can taste chemicals in processed fast food salads or the premade salad bagged.  I can taste the chemicals in water and boxed foods.  I loved Hot wings but not no more.  Fried chicken nope.  Steamed shrimp sits like lead but oddly I can stomach lightly fried shrimp.  I can drink instant sugar free lipton tea with no problem and my coffee with flavored sugar free creamers but only one.  Now I use the Biscotte flavor coffee and vanilla sugar free cream but I can no longer taste or smell the coffee which always smelled like pancakes.  Just taste normal.  Odd.  I wouldn't be a good taste tester.  Now fresh veggies and fruits are like candi!!!  Isn't it odd.  But honestly it would actually take months for your taste buds to unlearn the addiction to processed foods so it must be a medical thing.  If that proves to be true and the more of us losers that come ou****ch and see if the lobbiest for these processed food company's come out against our surgery!!

Interesting point, Lynn.  Last night my son made himself some French fries.  I was curious to taste one.  It was HORRIBLE!  I don't even think there were any POTATOES in it!  Lots of flavoring like broth?  Starch.  Potato "flavoring".  But I swear no potatoes!  On the other hand, I really enjoyed a few small pieces of home made chicken fingers.  They were lovely.  It's like I am a baby learning to eat food all over again!  Never was much for processed food, now even less so. Have a great day everyone!
