I've started the dreaded shed ...

I was washing my lovely locks this morn and much to my dismay I realized that I'm starting to shed some of my hair. It's not in huge amounts ... at least, not yet ... but enought that I really noticed. Good news is that I have a thick head of hair to start with ... I was hoping to be able to "skip" this lovely side effect. Since I don't get to skip it, I'm hoping that it won't be too bad.

Thanks for letting me share my "good" news.

Barb

P.S. Even with this lovely little side effect, I'm really glad I did this.

Barb- If you are not already on it- get the Biotin- I take 1 twice a day depending on the amount of shed....If I eat plenty of fish and keep my protein levels way up ( over 80gms/day) I almost completely stop the hair loss....You have seen my hair- baby fine, relatively thin blonde locks, so I do not have any to spare.... To me, its a small price to pay for the wt loss and greatly improved health. Enjoy this beautiful Sunday! Sheila

I am a work in progress and I am committed to progress with the work ahead of me.....

Sheila -

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I appreciate. I'll see about the biotin and I'm definitely making sure that I get enough protien in.

I'm blessed with nice thick hair, but because it's dark it's probably show the loss a bit more than if I had blond hair.

I'm with you, I consider this a modest price to pay for the increased health and wellness I feel. ... Not to mention the joy of wearing "normal" clothes!

I've already had a great morning with my 13 yr old daughter and plan to continue a wonderful day. I hope that you will enjoy your day as well.

Thanks again for the encouragement ... encouragement is always very much appreciated!

Hi Barb, I too am shedding my lovely locks.  I brush my hair outside and am seriously considering cutting it short, however, I can manage it better in a ponytail and a baseball cap while in the kitchen and if it's short I would have to wear a hair net.  I too have stray hair tickling my arms, all over my shirt and one stroke with a brush fills the brush with my hair.  It's been going on about 3 weeks now.  No one can notice yet how much it is thinning.  Small price to pay, I agree.  I take biotin.  I would hate to see what I would lose without it.  I don't know that it is really helping or not.  Better to be safe than sorry.  I'd rather be healthy and bald!  LOL Love, Diane

Hey Diane -

Like me, you must have been blessed with a very healthy head of hair, but I know that you've been having some issues with it, but if you hadn't told me I would have never known.

As you say, it's a small price to pay for the improvement in health and well-being.

Take my friend,

Barb

Ditto on the Biotin.  I found a sublingual Biotin at The Vitamin Shoppe and am taking it once daily in order to avoid shedding.  I too have a head full of hair, but I want to keep all I can!!!

Hey Jennifer -

Hope back to school went well for you today. Thanks for the comments re: Biotin. There's a Vitamin Shoppe nearby at Brier Creek in Raleigh, so I think I'll make a run over there to see about getting some.

All the best,

Barb

i keep hearing that the shedding is due to the stress of surgery and shows up 3-6 months down the road. if that's true, i'm not sure how a dose of biotin could have an effect in a day, but if it works for you, that's cool. can't hurt. i have thick fine hair, i'm not too worried about the shedding making it thin, but good go****'s annoying. i constantly have a stray hair here or there tickling my arm or my neck and have to brush them off my shoulders all.the.time. mine seems to have slowed down. it was at its worst for about 2 weeks.

it is also my understanding that it's stress related ... i know that i lost some after the birth of each of my children ... after i had each previous surgery ... i'm sure that the rapid weight loss plays into it to a degree as well.

i'm delighted w/my improved health and i'm sure that it will grow back in.

thanks for the words of encouragement,

barb
