Real nervous!! Still waiting on insurance approval...

Hi everyone!!   I have finally made it  to the insurance portion of Duke WLS.   I am so happy, but, soooo nervous!!    It has been a week and 1/2 since my file was sent.   In talking to my actual insurance (Medcost), it sounds like there was some confusion on their part.   Duke has been amazing.   They are on top of everything.   But the nurse at the insurance just got my stuff today and said she will be reviewing it.    I feel sick to my stomach.   It is 1:30 am and I cannot sleep.   I am told that I will find out any day now what the verdict is.    But, I need support.   I am so anxious, so nervous.   I keep playing out all of the "what ifs" in my head.   I truly believe that I will be approved.  But, you never know.     I did fine until we got to this point...waiting on insurance.   My anxiety level is at an all time high.   Also, I really would like to meet some people either in the area or on line for just general support.   I really am needing support right about now.   I look forward to talking to you all and meeting you too!! Caroline,      Best of luck to you on this journey. I hope that you get a prompt answer that will put your mind at ease! I enjoyed reading your story and it made me feel good to hear what you wrote about prior opinions to the surgery and how you've had an epiphany now. This is not an easy road but a tool that so many need to fight this battle and succeed at weight loss for a healthier life. Thanks for the inspiring story. I hope you get the green light to become a "loser" soon! Lisa

Caroline -

I too used Duke. Beth is fabulous and very thorough when she puts together a package to submit to insurance. I know that I was on pins and needles when I found that my package was sitting on the medical director's desk awaiting approval.

As Mare said, I'm sure you'll be getting some good news soon.

Please keep in touch and let us know when you get your approval.

All the best,

Barb

Caroline, I know exactly how you feel!  This is the most nerve-racking part of the journey, I think.  But try your best to get your mind off of the insurance, and keep yourself busy with other things.  I had to force myself to stay away from the computer and get involved in other things.  Tell yourself that you will look back at this and say "that really wasn't so bad". You are doing the right things by checking with your insurance company directly.  Sometimes the paitent has more pull than the Dr. Keep us informed! Lori

Hi Caroline,

This part of the process was really tough for me. Even though my surgeon all but promised me I'd be approved, I couldn't believe I had a chance until that beautiful approval letter was in my hands. Even then I read it over and over again.

For what it's worth, I have MedCost, too and they were awesome! They didn't balk at anything or ask for additional information.

Just hang in there and remember to breathe!

I feel your pain!

Karen

This is the time that God really tests your patience!  It took me 3 looong weeks to get a decision!  What a roller coaster ride.  Thankfully UHC approved me first time round.  Please don't hold your breath as these things can drag on for a while! Blessings, Diane
