I am confused ...

I thought that the monthly support group get togethers that we were having in Raleigh were open to all. Are the Raleigh Get Together's open to all that want to come or is now a closed event, only open by direct invitation?

Please let me know what "the rules" are.

Barb,  I was wondering something also.......It's actually the RALEIGH meet up, does that mean others who are not part of the Raleigh group don't have an open invite?  I replied "maybe" but am I overstepping my boundaries???????  Yikes! Nancy

It has always been my understanding that the "Raleigh Get Togethers" are open to all who would like to attend. Hence, my confusion.

I truly hope that if you are able to come to one of the events that you will do so.

Oh wow! maybe that's why I can't even see if I'm even allowed in the group. I got a generic type message, but when I followed the link back to meetup I can't view the normal stuff you'd find if you belong to that meetup group (I know because I belong to a meetup knitting group). It's fine if it's a closed group, but maybe it shouldn't be called the Raleigh get together since that makes newbies think if you're in Raleigh you are welcome to join when maybe that's not the case.

I am sure that you can join the meetup.com "The Raleigh OH Meetup Group." Are you sure that the "organizer" just hasn't added you to the group distribution yet? If that's the case, it's probably just an oversight.

In my experience w/meetup.com groups, they usually indicate if they are closed/open by direct invitation only.

Thanks Barb, I have emailed the organizer (I think :-)) So hopefully I'll be able to meet some locals really soon.

I can't figure out what this meetup.com thing does that can't be done right here on the message board.  Why is it necessary to add another intermediary "screening" agency that really has no affiliation with OH?  What purpose does it serve that cannot be served right here?  Based on what I am reading here, it appears to be adding a lot of confusion to what should be a rather simple, uncomplicated process... JMHO and that of one who has not attempted to avail herself of the service.  Just a response to what I am reading here.
