This sounds insane - but I don;t know what it feels like to feel full!  My surgery was 2 weeks and I am still on the protein (which I have no problem with).  But my tummy growls occasionally but I don't feel full.  Is that just a side effect of the surgery.  I catch myself drinkting too much prtein at on time and nothing. HELP!

Hey Dianne, I pray you are well and recovering nicely!  You say that you don't feel full, but are you actually feeling hungry?  My tummy really growls now, it's funny, especially when I am eating something really tasty!  I don't feel full in the traditional sense of how my stomach once felt full.  Before surgery, I rarely felt "full."  Now, when my pouch is full I feel if I take one more bite it won't go down.  Like it will sit in my esophagus somewhere and make me sick.  I think the important part is that you are not really feeling hungry yet. Is that right?  I hope this was helpful! Diane

Thanks,  all this does make me feel better.  I was afraid I had already done something wrong.   Tomorrow I have my 2 week check up and see the nutrionist.  Looking forward to that.  Maybe something soft and pureed instead of ALL protein.  But, I have had no problems with the protein.   Will update later! Thanks, Dianne

Dianne -

I had the same issue and I have to say that it scared me silly. I thought ... Oh no, everyone else talks about feeling full, having no desire to eat, etc ... Maybe this isn't going to work for me.

Hang in there ... things will change with time. It will work and you will feel full. Remember that they have cut you up inside and that includes nerve endings. So you may litterally not be able to "feel" the sensations of fullness. This changes over time as you heal.

Continue to do what your dr and nutrionist tell you to and you are going to be fine.

Hope that helps.

Barb, Thank you for the positive thoughts.  I feel like I could drink gallons and never feel a thing.  But I am trying to keep all under control. Thanks Again, Dianne

Hi Dianne,

I do feel full and started working on this two years ago before my surgery.

I learned what it felt like to feel full and what it felt like to be hungry.

Since surgery I started with one ounce of broth and felt like I was going to pop.

Now I am able to eat about 4oz of cream soup and a few crackers and feel stuffed.

I prefere liquid protien drinks and or soups they fill me up more so than other soft foods.

I really was not able to tell I was full until about 5/6 months out... remember on liquids you will never feel full... your pouch is a funnel... liquids move right thru. You will notice a big difference when you eat more solids. Keep in mind it takes time for your nerves to heal!!!
