Dr.Miles Wilmington, NC

Hello Everybody, this is my first try here. I have just been refered for gastric bypass to Dr.Miles in Wilmington,NC. But before I make my appt. my medical doc is putting me thru battery of tests. Has anybody had gastric bypass by Dr.Miles & if so, did you like his bedside manner? Did you have any problems? I am 5ft 5 & weigh 270. I suffer with serious fibromyalgia & other ailments. I pray the weightloss eases my pain but my pain management doc doesn't feel optimistic.

Hello, Welcome to the Board.  I recently had RNY surgery but chose Dr Harris as my surgeon.  See who your insurance carrier will cover.  Unfortunately that is often the deciding factor.  I have no regrets about having chosen Dr Harris.  I did work briefly with Dr Miles during my recovery, while Dr Harris was on vacation, and was not impressed.  He does have an impressive office, however. I am covered under Medicaid because I am disabled & receive SSI. It is considered Carolina Access & as long as my provider refers me to a surgeon under the "umbrella" I am a given for coverage for gastric bypass because my BMI is 44.9 I was told by Dr.Ravi. I have been told Dr.Miles is the best in his field. 6 patients of my doctor & a nurse in her office have had gastric bypass by Dr.Miles & all went smoothly. Very unsettled though to hear of your experience of paper work being "lost" or just being put in limbo. I live in Ocean Isle Beach so the drive to see Dr.Miles & to hospital he uses is only 45 minutes. I guess I'll have to go with him & hope I get better office service than you did. I have a copy machine in my home. I'll be sure I make copies of everything & send them paperwork, call to be sure they received them after one week. Will keep calling each week for progress report & if need be, I'll send everything to them again! Thank you very much for sharing your experiences with his office personel. I have heard FANTASTIC reports on his bedside manner & surgery results by my doctor & from this website. Check out his website & see what his patients have posted. I can't speak BAD of him or anything like that.. I was at FIRST  going to use Dr. Miles.. I received my packet in the mail and TOOK it to his office myself.. I waited 3 weeks and never got the phone call.. I called them and low and behold "We have No paperwork for you" I was SHOCKED.. I told the older lady that answered the phone she's also the one that works the office front window.. that I gave them to her and she took a copy of my I.D. and insurance card.. but nope nothing.. So I then Switched to Dr. Harris office.. I have BCBS Blue care and so far everything has been running very smoothly and no problems thus far... I agree with the other poster.. You need to contact your insurance carrier and see who's covered in your plan.. Some doctors aren't included and you pay a lot of out of pocket.. Dr. Harris is 100% covered with me... Hope you find the best doctor... Blessings

Way back in February when I started this adventure I really wanted a surgeon close to where I live. No surgeons are in Jacksonville so I was shooting for Wilmington. I called Dr. Miles and they sent me a packet of paperwork and then after I filled it out let me know that they were NOT approved by Tricare yet. They could of told me this when I first called since they asked who my carrier was. I was not impressed with them at all. My doctor is in Greenville and the drive sucks but thats who my provider covers so Im staying with him.
