Hello everyone, I am a lap band patient. I have lost 70lbs and have kept it off for 3 years now. My husband and I are thinking about moving to the carolinas. We are not quite sure where yet. would like to live somewhat near an airport, but would still like some country living. If anyone can give us some ideas we would greatly appreciate it. Thanks so much Harriet

Harriet -

Congratulations on all 70 of your successes and keeping it off ... that, I'm sure is where the real work is.

Re: where to move. There are a number of areas. You could consider the "Triad" there is a nice airport there. Living in the country would not be so far out. RDU is in the Raleigh/Durham area and country living is within 30 minutes. Of course, there is Charlotte which also has a large airport. All have there, plusses and minuses.

Other than the airport and country. Is there anything else special that you are looking for?

Another quotient to add to the question:  Would you prefer to live towards the mountains or the beach area?  What type of jobs are you in? Nancy

How close to an airport would you like to live?  Charlotte is the largest city in NC, but I live about 1.5 hours away from Charlotte in a very rural and close knit community.  Even though Charlotte is huge it is surrounded by several nice, country communities.  :)

Thanks everyone for your reply. We would like to live near a golf course. But not in the city. My kids live in Miami, so thats why I would like to live near an airport. I think around 45 min or less from the airports would be great. We are looking for some nicer weather in the winters. My husband is a Pharmacist and I am a Secretary, so we could live just about anywhere. ( but not in Florida, my husbands license does not go to Florida YET!) I t is great to be able to hear from other weight lose patients from other areas. Thanks so much. Barbara, Keeping the weight off has been alot of work. ( I personally found it easier to lose it) I excercise at least 5 times a week, and try to make the right food decisions. I also run the support group for the Dr.s office ( every 2 weeks, so that makes me stay on track) Again, Thanks to all of you for your response. Maybe If I come to visit the area, we can get together for coffee. Harriet

Hi!  I'm just speaking up for Greensboro...'cause I live here and really like it.  I've been here for almost 2 years.  Lived over near Durham before that.  I've been in NC since 1996, and have lived in Raleigh, Durham, over near Jacksonville, and here in GSO.  Love the fact that we're about equidistant from mountains and shore...lots of golf courses, great schools, lots of things to do...and you're going to love living in NC.  All the best with your move. Linda

I think I'd look at the Greensboro area.  Golf course, lots to do..airport and lots of jobs.  There's lots of surrounding areas that are smaller but close enough for a commute. nancy

Hey Harriet -  I have been banded for 2 yrs and have kept off 100 pounds....would like to loss a little more. Easy goes it...slow and steady for me. :) I live in Concord, NC. I work in Charlotte. We have a few golf courses the closest is Rocky River on Speedway Blvd. There is Highland Creek golf course. Also I am about an hour from the Greensboro airport and about 30 - 45 mins from the Charlotte airport. There is still good land for sale here and the area is growing so fast but still not too fast if that makes any sense. It's the best of a small city and the country together. :) I work  downtown Charlotte near the hospitals and it takes like 30 - 45 mins in traffic but being home I love being out of the city. Oh yeah we are about 3 hours to the beach and about 2 - 3 hours from the different NC mountains. So there is my suggestion...good luck and I would say I am kind of partial to the area. We moved here when we got married 8 years ago and we will not move out of this area.

Thanks for your reply. I will definitly look in your area. I am hoping to come up and look around the area. Any suggestions on  any new houses or nice streets to live on? Thanks for all your help.  Keep up the great work on keeping off the weight. It is great to feel good about yourself, and to know that you are on the road to healthy living. Take care and thanks again Harriet

I actually live in Harrisburg, a small town in Cabarrus County right beside Concord. There are houses from the 120,000 - 1/2 million not sure what you are looking for. In Harrisburg look off Rocky River Rd. Great new developments very nice area, great schools (not sure if you need those or not) In Concord there are are new developments off Highway 601, you can get 1 - 3 acre lots. Or off Hwy 73 there is a lot of development. Oh there is a very nice neigherhood called Skybrook. That is near my sisters house. Also I think there is one called Winding Trail maybe. Moss Creek is another large neighberhood.  My parents live in Charlotte and my sister and I both live in Concord/Harrisburg so they are looking for land to buy and build them a house. They also love it out here. Not sure of the size house, lot or anything that you are looking for. I would happy to go and find you some books and such if you want to pm me.  Hope this helps get you started and there are so many more areas but I am at a blank right now. :) Good Luck!!!! I love NC as a whole so no matter where you end up...I think you would be happy.
