I have been reading all the treads even the older ones, and I haven't heard anyone mention Dr. Gary Robinson.  He is located in Statesville and has currently been the procedure for about a year.  My question is............  Should I be a little leary of that fact??  He is a recognized surgeon on the Lap Band website, so I was just wondering if anyone had any input??? Thanks

You should do as much research on your surgeon as possible. This is SURGERY!!!! Not to mention a life long relationship with someone willing to alter you human anatomy. A Good surgeon should be backed with a great team. A staff that is knowledgable in Bariatric Surgery is a huge plus. The more experience your surgeon has the easier the the surgery is for them. I wanted the Surgeon with the most experience on my type of sugery. Someone that offered support ( another must), and worked along side of good nutritionalist. I didn't do any research on Lap-Band so I can't offer you any info on Dr. Robinson. GOOD LUCK.

All of the research I have done has indicated that the most important factor in reducing complications during and after the surgery is the number of surgeries the doctor has done.  If he has less than 100 surgeries then the morbitiy rate goes way up.  That is what the Discovery Channel CME program stated.

Yes, that's is correct. But I do believe that they mean 100 Lap-Band Surgeries. A General Surgeon has 100's of surgeries, but maybe not particularly the Lap-Band Surgery. Dr. Robonson is a General Surgeon not a Bariatric Surgeon.  I work in Statesville and see a Dr. Andy White there. He knows a few Bariatric Surgeons, maybe he can give you some advise on Dr. Robinson.

I had surgery 2 years ago w/ Dr Voellinger. At the time he was a general surgeon, he had such a passion for bariatrics that he left general surgery and now focuses just on bariatric surgery actually opened up his own practice in Charlotte. You do have to do your reasearch and you could be the 1 or 1000 lap band surgery they all have to start somewhere. :) You will know when you have found the right surgeon for you. I went to several seminars and met w/ several surgeons at the semianr w/ Dr V at Presby I knew for sure he was the one for me. I just knew...I remember my husband turning to me and saying you are going to go w/ him aren't you. I just smiled becuase we both got the warm and fuzzy that I needed. :) So you will know who you feel right with.  Good Luck w/ your serach....good luck w/ your surgery!
