Hi everyone, Well I have been reading all the good info on this site and decided to join. I am hoping to have the lapband surgery.  Hopefully with Naziri (did I spell that right?). My question is this. I went to the seminar at the hospital and it included brief information. The nurse said that we must first sign up for a patient education class and then we will be scheduled for all the preop stuff. This is 200 dollars. Do you pay another 200 when you consult with the md? Also, has anyone had the lapband done with a BMI >50. Right now mines is 52-53 and I have BCBSNC (state health plan).  I don't want the gastric bypass. Anyway, thanks in advance for everything.

Hi I haven't had surgey yet.. and my BMI is 52 as well and I have BCBSNC my plan is Blue Care. But BCBS will NOT cover a lap band surgery with a BMI over 50 is what I was told when I met with Dr. Harris, even without co-morb.... they recommend that you get your BMI under that..now that is what he told me.. And if you go to BCBS website and type in Lap Band in the search area it will give you a lot of information.. hope you findthe answer.. blessings and welcome aboard

Just wanted to say WELCOME! I know for my surgeon (Dr.Moran), I attended a free seminar and after that the fee was 300$ to have a consultation with him. I'm planning on having the band but my BMI is under 40. I hope someone can answer more of your questions soon! Look forward to getting to know ya!
