On July 30th I had an Open RNY which was a big surprise when I woke up.  Since then I have had diarrhea which only today I have gotten over.  I know think I am just in a big slump because of all of this.  I have no energy.  I am not eating near what I am supposed to be.  I feel really weak and somewhat depressed.  I want to bring myself out of this but I am finding it very hard.  Of course now I am regretting the whole thing but I know I cant change that.  I just need some uplifting words to help me through this.  Actually, I need some friends who understand what I am going through maybe just to kick me in the butt and get me going................ Thanks

First of all.. congrats to you for starting your journey!! Bravo 2nd you just had major major surgery 13 days ago......that is not even two weeks. It is going to take a little time for your body to adjust from the trauma. Have you called the doctor about the diarrhea?  The diarrhea alone is enough to make you feel weak.....which make you feel bad and some what depressed. Take it slow and try to be patient.....get as much heathly nutrition as you can. It will get better. As you start to feel better and lose weight you will be happy you made the decision to help yourself get healthy. This was not an EASY fix all.......but you can do this!! I know it's hard...but hang in there....you will be glad in the long run. Just make sure to keep open communication with your doctor.....good after care is essential. I'm cheering for you  Cheerleader 1 ~Sarah~

i think it's a little early for butt kicking, but check back with me in about 2-3 weeks and i'll be happy to oblige. until then, take it easy, you'll be ok.

I felt weak and fatiqued at 2 wks and my RNY was laparascopic. Remember to be gentle with yourself. An open procedure is a MUCH more difficult recovery. There is a great deal more healing that needs to occur. It takes about twice as long to recover from an open procedure, than it does to recover from a lap procedure.

It's really normal to question your decision when you are at this stage of the game ... you'll probably question it again, but go back to the "health reasons" you did this. Remember that this is just about the hardest part of the journey ...the hardest part might have been right after surgery... It's kind of hard to see the big picture when you are more tired than dirt, hurting and have to work hard just to get your nutrition and fluids in. Do something positive and special for yourself each day. Remember that you are going to tire easily, even when your head thinks you should be doing more, your body is smarter and will yank you back if you to are doing too much ... that's what naps are for ... helping to recharge your batteries.

Be really careful about your fluids and electrolites... Talk to your Dr or his nursing staff.

It may be hard to believe it now, but this too shall pass. When it does, I'm sure that you will feel that you did indeed do the best thing you could to ensure your longterm health and quality of life.
