Dr. Melkonian
I'm scheduled for surgery on 8/16/07. Dr. Melkonian will be doing my RNY surgery at Presbyterian Hospital. Does anyone have any comments on him. He seems very nice. Has anyone had any complications or problems. I guess its just pre-surgery nerves kicking in. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
I had my surgery on 6/14/06 with Dr. Carl Lowe who is Dr. Melkonian's partner. I had to see Dr. Melkonian when I went to the hospital because I had a blockage complication. I love Dr. Lowe. I do not like Dr. Melkonian. Most everyone that see him really likes him but he isn't as personnable as Dr. Lowe but most people really like him. He is a little stiff. Dr. Lowe is very kind and even calls me personally every so often to check on my progress. I have lost 190lbs. I started at 355lbs. I am just one of the few that don't care for him. I think it's good to know lots of opinions on your surgeon so I though I would tell you mine.

I love DrMelkonian... my best friend had surgery with him 5 years ago and had amazing results. I had an extremely smooth surgery and never had any complications. Recently I started having some burning in my stomach but prilosec took care of it... I think it was due to stress and not the surgery. His staff has always been wonderful to me and its been one of the greatest experiences of my life! The support group at Presby is great... hope to see you there next month!

Thanks everyone for the post and incouragement. I to feel Dr. Melkonian isn't as personnable as I would like. But I've only spoke with him at my Pre-Consult. I haven't heard anything negative on his surgical skills, and thats good.
By the way dlfredrick, hope your surgery goes well. You will probably be leaving the day I have my surgery.
I had my surgery on July 31 with Dr. Melkonian. The first time I met him, he was very direct and to the point. he answered all of my questions. He did an amazing job on my surgery. Only took 50 min. He knows what he is doing but bedside is not real warm and fluffy. But I wanted someone who knew what he was doing in the surgery. He came to see me 2 times when I was in the hospital and was pleasant. Good luck with the surgery. I go back Monday for my 2 week checkup! All is good so far.
